I think I'd still give Cuckoo's Nest Best Picture, but if Robert Shaw didn't get Best Supporting Actor, then he should get it retroactively.

Breakfast Club is a good one, Rat. Have you shown her St. Elmo's Fire? Also, in keeping with the Dreyfuss theme, Stakeout?

Beverly Hills Cop is another one

great list. you are missing Raiders of the Lost Ark, Animal House,Lethal Weapon, Broadcast News, and Best of Times

you didn't need CGI to make a great movie. you just needed acting and talented writers

CGI is not the critical component these days. These days the critical component is an already existing property/franchise to adapt.

Yep. She is from "Grabtown," which is the area most know as the Brogden community in Johnston County. It's not far from me at all.

She was buried in Smithfield. It was said that Sinatra was devastated by her death.

Did this with my kids. It's great fun. Many of the oldies move too slowly for today's world. Here's one that hasn't been mentioned and is especially good with a daughter: It Happened One Night. Lots of Oscars and some great lines and scenes.

"We should retroactively award films. So, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest won Best Picture (and everything else) for 1975...in 2012 would you give it that award or give it to Jaws?"

I think the former is a better film than the latter, but of course that's subjective. Somebody else could say pure entertainment is the most important thing, in which case I'd say Jaws should get the award. Then again, what one person finds entertaining (I'm thinking of eCat's vacation videos), someone else would find ridiculous. Basically there's no way anyone can say anything about anything in any meaningful way...

He laughed his ass off

That flick captured the last moments of him being truly at ease with being funny. You can see it in the film. He was just walking into that phase of "comedian as rock star." After that, he was more "Cool Eddie" than "Funny Eddie.". Still funny, but nevermore unbridled.

yea, you can kinda see the beginning of him starting to think he was the center of everything to all people.

That is why I like Dave Chapelle so much. He was so concerned about losing his touch, he walked away from $50m dollars.

Eddie wouldn't have.

We did have an "adjustment" moment this weekend. At Lowes my wife was talking to me as she was backing out of the parking space and didn't see an elderly couple that had walked up on her car. She came closer to hitting them than was comfortable and rightfully so she stressed out about it. My son started making cracks about women drivers which didn't set well with her and she exploded on him and then me for teaching him to be that way so I'm not allowed to make cracks about women anymore.....if I want pussy on a regular basis...at least until she is over almost killing two old people

stupid women

Good GoT last night. It took Sepinwall and his recap to help round out some of the blurrier moments, in my mind.

Looks more and more like Robb Stark (and Katharine Stark) are even more on an island...
The Tyrells are now aligned with the Lannisters...and I expect Renly's ex broad will have her designs on the queenship, now that Sansa seemingly bounced. Also, who set up Tyrion for death? I take it as Cersei, as pinch-face dickboy is not ballsy enough to have his uncle killed on the field of battle...and no way that attempt on his life was a unilateral decision by the soldier left to fight in Pinchface's stead.

With Stanis and Renly dead, the Greyjoys fucking up Winterfell and dragons years away from reaching maturity, I can't see Robb Stark being able to make any noise in King's Landing. I think he's signed the death certificate on all the Starks. Especially, with Sansa running out, Jamie on his way back to Kings Landing and a new queen (seemingly) on deck, no need to try to keep the Starks breathing.

I have one more episode to see Joffrey get his comeupance or this is Strike 2 on this show (Strike 1 being the casting of the Dothraki). I would hate to stop watching, but I'm a principled dude...even if against my own superficial enjoyment.
This is about as much as I can offer without spoiling, but I'll tag it anyway :
Stannis retreated when his mane gave up, he didn't die
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it, then how bad of a decision can it really be?
