I'm getting ready to leave for the day, close of business. But I wanted to share with you (and all of you) a comment on Megan McArdle's blog regarding the DA in Ferguson. Please read it all, it's short. And please excuse the inappropriate grammar. I quote him verbatim for effect.

Why are people like McCulloch and his dead Father seen as "bad guys".?While people who are rioting and hurling rocks at police and looting stores, are seen as Civil Rights heros?
I grew up in a very liberal household in the 1970s and 80s. and an extremely liberal neighborhood. But I never saw this kind of "Alice in Wonderland" attitude that I see now. Just a day or two ago, Eric Holder praised Marion Barry.As did Obama.This is the same Marion Barry that was arrested on a few different occasions for illegal drugsWho was friends with drug dealers.And who was once arrested for stalking a girlfriend.And was also arrested for assaulting a female janitor at BWI Airport[He pled guilty]When did our Attorny Generals start thinking of people like Marion Barry as people worthy of praise.?And people like McCulloch and his Father as people who should be condemned?
This is where we are at.... right and wrong make no difference here. For some people, everything is racial. WTF?

The cop, Wilson, is a wormy looking guy. I'm sure he did feel threatened by Brown. And probably with good reason.
Growing up in south Louisiana, all the police and sheriffs were beefy, corn-fed Cajuns. Big, callus-covered kielbasa fingers extending out of ham-like hands. Broad shoulders, thick legs, with a bit of a crazy glint in their eyes. You wanna wrestle or fight with them, they would oblige ...and you would regret it. They made sure of that. But they wouldn't shoot you usually. They didn't have to.

Wilson is 6'4" 230#.
Everything else aside, you've put two rounds in the guy and he's running away. Why chase after him, shooting 10 more rounds while there are pedestrians on the street and he's unarmed? Call backupm follow him and if the kid is still alive and holed up somewhere once SWAT arrives, let them extract or execute him. That's what they do in L.A. (admittedly, we probably have a lot more experience out here with how to properly execute the unarmed).
The amazing thing is that Wilson didn't hit any innocent bystanders.
Not to be ignored . . . Wilson's story has changed multiple times.

And wasn't Brown was shot 6 times? Five in the front of the body and one in the top of the head, supposedly.

In the end, there seemed to be enough reasonable doubt for a trial. And the fact that there wasn't, even if Brown 'deserved' his fate, the appearance of impropriety makes this difficult situation worse.
