Dr. Strangelove wrote:Curious side note that will get buried by the 'mandate' for Republican policies that this Election clearly demonstrated...

Minimum wage hikes were approved by voters directly in many states. Curiouser still, they won in Republican states. Alaska voted to raise the minimum wage by a margin of 67%. Arkansas by 65%. Nebraska by 59%. Even South Dakota voted to raise theirs to $8.50, well above the national requirement.

So while electing national level politicians who belong to a party that claims any raise in the minimum wage would be disastrous for the economy and tea party candidates who believe that the minimum wage should be abolished, the same voters in deeply red states are passing what's essentially progressive legislation.

In other news......

On the gubernatorial level, in Arizona, pro-Second Amendment candidate Doug Ducey (R) beat gun control candidate Fred DuVaul (D). And in Florida, pro-Second Amendment incumbent Rick Scott (R) beat gun control candidate Charlie Crist. These victories were enhanced by the fact that Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly endorsed DuVal and Giffords' gun control PAC gave $100,000 to Crist's campaign.

The Second Amendment trumped their endorsement and their money.

In Texas, NRA-endorsed gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott (R) won. In Maryland, NRA-endorsed gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan (R) won. In Alabama, NRA-endorsed Governor Robert J. Bentley (R) won. In Wisconsin, NRA-endorsed Governor Scott Walker (R) won. In Michigan, NRA-endorsed Governor Rick Snyder (R) won. In Nevada, NRA-endorsed Governor Brian Sandval (R) won. In Ohio, NRA-endorsed Governor John R. Kasich (R) won. In Oklahoma, NRA-endorsed Governor Mary Fallin (R) won. In Wyoming, NRA-endorsed Governor Matt Mead (R) won. In Idaho, NRA-endorsed Governor Bruce Otter (R) won. In Kansas, NRA-endorsed Governor Sam Brownback (R) won. And in Maine, NRA-endorsed Governor Paul R. LePage (R) won against gun control candidate Michael Michaud (D).

In Senate races, gun control Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) was defeated by NRA-endorsed Cory Gardner (R) and gun control Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) was defeated by NRA-endorsed Thom Tillis (R). In Kansas, NRA-endorsed Senator Pat Roberts (R) won. In Georgia, NRA-endorsed Senatorial candidate Bill Perdue (R) won. In Arkansas, NRA-endorsed Tom Cotton (R) won. And in West Virginia, NRA-endorsed Shelly Moore Capito (R) won, marking the first time that state has sent a Republican Senator to Washington DC in over five decades.

The spotlight was also on the race between NRA-endorsed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and pro-gun control challenger Alison Grimes (D). McConnell won handily.

Good thing for her that Mormons finally started letting minorities become full members in the 1970's.

"Fitzgerald was already an unlikeable candidate but once all the scandal stuff started breaking over the summer (possible sex scandal, driving for a decade w/o a license) he had no shot."

Surely, he polled well in Youngstown...

Who is she? The new version of Aunt Jemima?

Dems took it on the chin last night. I blame Barry - he'd have done better trying to push for single payer health care system, full amnesty and 90% tax for everything over $300K. Why lose over half measures?
During a press conference later, O'Mara was asked if he had any advice for Zimmerman, and he answered, "Pay me."

JD, what's your assessment of Tim Scott, the first African American elected to the senate from the Deep South since Reconstruction?

I agree. The R's have proven themselves competent at being the opposition party, but not so good as the governing party. I don't think anybody believes the American people have embraced Republicanism as practiced the last time they were in power.

Best criticism I heard of the Obama foreign policy was Boehner's statement that Dubya would've punched Putin in the nose if he had pulled this Ukraine business while a Republican was in office.

Apparently John Boehner has no recollection whatsoever of when Russia invaded Georgia in 2008

Nope. I checked. Kasich won 86 out of 88 counties in Ohio. The only two counties to vote for Fitzgerald were Athens (hippy college town) and Monroe (no clue on that one).

Cleveland, Youngstown, Akron, Canton...typical Democrat strongholds all voted Kasich

On another note, it was the lowest voter turnout in Ohio in a midterm election since at least 1978

Much of what needs to be done is merely a matter of UNDOing things done by President Barack Obama. We have got to end the Affordable Care Act and put a stop (once and for all) to all bachelor-taxes like this by calling them out for what they are, bachlelor-taxes. Unfortunately with Obama still sitting in the White House he will simply veto any and all changes proporsed by the majority Senate Republicans and majority House Republicans. They don't have super-majorities so they will not be able to over-ride Obama's vetos the way the Massachusetts State House/Beacon Hill simply told Governor Mitt Romney's vetos to piss up a rope for 4 years.

With a Hillary election almost assured at this point, we are lookign at pure quagmire. That is fine to stop future bachelor-taxes imposed by those stricken with the feminist imperative but it doesn't undo what ACA has already done. So we are going to need majorities in both houses AND a GOP President to ever even begin to think about ending this ACA nonsense. And even then, we only have a two year window to get everything rolled back to the way is was, rolled back to sanity.
Feminism: Eve eats ALL the apples, gives God the middle finder when He confronts her, and has the serpent serve Adam with an injunction ordering him to both stay away from her AND to provide her food and shelter because he dragged her out of the Garden.

There you have it...the mindset of the dittohead.

For everybody else, killing Bin Laden and ending two ground wars (while not starting any new ones) hardly ranks as failure. A weak recovery is still a recovery, and our borders have been open long before you were born.

Bush, otoh, owns 9/11 and the clusterfuck known as the Iraq War. He presided over the Great Recession. All the other stuff he did or didn't do amounts to squat compared to those three. Dubya's infamous legacy is assured and is already in the books, even if in retirement he somehow learns to paint inside the lines.
