Oliver supposedly gave Bowden the nickname "Tater Tot."

Another perk for getting Thompson right now: he can tell us who this year's last-minute flip from Auburn to Bama will be. The leading candidate is Kerryon Johnson. All the signs point to it. Johnson was just named Alabama's "Mr. Football" and got his fifth star.

Especially true when Bama fans are involved.

Two weeks until signing day. This is usually the time when rumors about impending NCAA investigations of Auburn start. Danny Sheridan even knows the bag man, and will name names as soon as his lawyer gives the green light. We're talking death penalty stuff here, people.

Texas commit suddenly flips to Auburn after taking a visit, immediately tweets out a picture of him holding a wad of cash. Just another day in the $EC

He's related to The Playmaker? Not out of the realm of possibility that it actually IS graduation money. But you gotta be smarter than that, bro.

Great recruiting class for Auburn this year. Hats off to the staff, many of which were only hired a few weeks ago.

I can't remember one class having this many Floridians.

I don't follow recruiting very closely...because I think it's creepy as hell...but I'm assuming that recruits are steering clear of Miami for the time being, as it's a sinking ship? Would imagine that would free up some good talent for the SEC/FSU

In this year's case, the unusually large group of Floridians in Auburn's class had everything to do with Will Muschamp. As the head coach at Florida, he was well-connected to the schools, coaches, and players in the state. So when they fired him and Auburn hired him, he brought his database and network of relationships with him and recruited them hard. We essentially signed the Gators' class this year.

It used to be that kids from Miami grew up as fans of the school, but a lot of luster has obviously been lost there, and other schools have gotten better networks with coaches down there than they used to be able to establish. Hell, Treon Harris' dad is a legendary coach from the area who took a job with UM and his son committed to FSU but ended up at UF.

And the word on the skreets is that Golden has lost the respect of his team. The last big recruit they pulled from the area is Duke Johnson, whose mom blasted the coaches recently and said most of the team would transfer if the one-year-sitout rule wasn't in place. Even though UF has been down the last 2 years, they're still sending players to the NFL, and FSU is doing so at a record pace. So why on earth would anyone want to go to UM, play in front of 10K fans every other week, receive marginal coaching, and have shitty facilities (the weightroom has disco lights - wtf?)? The only compelling reason to go there is (a) get a good education for free, and (b) have a good nightlife with a lot of beaches...neither factor tends to attract 4 and 5 star recruits.
