Re: Ostensibly Hoops
That word was no good, despite what you might have read on IC. I had a hunch back in Jan. when K made his 2nd trip to Kinston that Ingram was going to Duke. He said that if UNC didn't have possible sanctions, he would have gone there. He also said he has been a Duke fan growing up.
To be honest, I figured State had as much of a chance as UNC did of being picked today. It was either Duke, Duke or Kentucky.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
UK offered a 3 star NC St recruit/commit
this leads most to believe that UK will not land Brown or Diallo

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
as far as I know he hasn't - but apparently the guy doesn't let anyone know much of anything. He's a closed book on recruiting - as much as a 17 year old can be
He eliminated UCLA either yesterday or this morning. From what I've read its KU, UK, UNC, Cal and Michigan.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
IC staff saying Brown very unlikely to choose UK, and they don't usually say stuff like that unless they're pretty sure. Maybe he'll choose Dook and K will out-Cal Cal again this year (although I think their class is rated #1 already). Meanwhile, UNC has Luke Maye, the 3 star whitey son of a former football player that looks like Roy was doing somebody a favor recruiting. I hope we win it all this year, b/c we're in trouble after this...

UK board - not anyone in particular but the consensus thinks its Michiganhedge wrote:IC staff saying Brown very unlikely to choose UK, and they don't usually say stuff like that unless they're pretty sure. but like I said earlier - everyone is talking about how this kid keeps everyone guessing. I doubt the IC folks know anything in particular other than some external information - they may be basing it solely on us offering Kirk.

They don't think he's going to UNC either. They never come right out and say where they think a recruit is or isn't going, but you can tell what they're thinking from what they do say...

Diallo to Kansas.... Calipari whiffs again on a top recruit. Hmmmm. Looks as if UK will have to rely on Willis to get them in the tourney next season..

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
The game is up for Cal now that K has entered the octagon of one-and-doneness.
yeah, Carolina is suffering a fate worse than NCAA sanctions now. If this continues into next year, it'll be years before they get a top 25 recruit, much less a top 10 one.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Doubtful. As soon as something happens, either sanctions with a definite end point or else the NCAA comes out and declares no sanctions and the investigation over, we'll be right back in the mix. In fact, I predict as soon as one of the aforementioned scenarios occurs, we'll probably get one of our better runs in recruiting due to kids wanting to be part of the "resurgence" of UNC basketball...

by that time, Cal will probably be gone from UK and Coach K might even be in retirement
but that would only partially solve the dilemma UNC is in with Roy. Roy has a rep of not prepping a one and done for the NBA. The more UNC fails, the bigger that rep is going to be. No kid wants to be the next Tyler Hansbrough (unless he is a slow white kid with upper middle class parents)
IMO, the only way UNC digs themselves out of this hole is either Roy becomes a one and done disciple (unlikely - too many obstacles) or a new coach comes in that is young, exciting and cocky as hell.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Well, we'll be getting a new coach eventually, and probably sooner rather than later. But either way, I just can't bring myself to complain about Roy too much. Yeah, his Deputy Dawg act is mildly annoying at times, but we've had what has to be considered one of our greatest runs while he's been coach. We had immediate improvement when he got here, then an NC in his second year, followed by 4 very good years with Hansbrow and Co. (culminating in a FF followed by a dominant NC), and a couple of at least FF contenders since then, including the team when Kendall Marshall broke his hand during the tourny. So even though that season ended badly, it was a team that I think could've hung with if not beat UK that year, which IMO was UK's best team under Cal, so that's saying something. Not saying we would've won it all that year, but certainly we would've been able to compete with that UK squad and therefore, obviously, any other team (pretty sure we would've been favored against any team save UK in the tourny that year if we had been full strength). And I'm pretty sure we're going to have a NC caliber squad next year. So it's pretty hard to imagine fans of any other school except UK or UNC that would be wanting to get rid of a coach with that resume over that period of time...

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
the pressure is going to build as Duke pulls away.
no one at UNC cares about UK other than UK taking recruits away that would have been UNC
but when Duke starts back into dynasty mode, Roy is going to be facing competing with not only what happens as fallout from the investigation but also from Kansas, UK, UNC and whoever else is embracing the new model of courting the AAU circuit
I mean lets face it - Cal just got demoted as the guy owning college basketball. Coach K came back with a vengeance on that title.
That puts Roy in a very uncomfortable position

Donovan coaches OKC. Florida is on its way back to being a purely football school.
The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

Not with those facilities. They needed new blood anyway. Donovan was getting stale.

He would have left sooner except for that 5 year NBA ban. Last year there wasn't much out there besides crappy weather towns. OKC ain't the best destination but he's familiar with a lot of people there and he really wants to scratch that itch like Hedge and his crabs.

"the pressure is going to build as Duke pulls away."
Meh, Dook got a gift in 2010 winning that NC (thanks to UK shitting the bed against West Virginia), but hey, it counts. But since Roy has been at UNC, Dook has lost in the first round of the tourny 3 times (twice in the last 4 years), and always as a much higher seed. They also lost in the second round once and in the Sweet 16 four times. They made the regional finals once, losing by 23 to Louisville. So it's basically been championship or bust for them since 2004. Meanwhile, Roy has won 2 NC's, been to another FF and been to 3 regional finals (lost one of those in OT and were in the game against UK) and never lost in the first round. All in all, I'd take Roy's tourny output since he's been at Carolina over K's at Dook over that same time frame. If we make a deep run next year, much less win it all, it's not even close. But I do admit that the specter of this NCAA thing has things looking pretty bleak for us for the near future (after next season)...
