No, but I believe the killer was named Simpson. An LAPD detective I knew at the time said the theory was that the killer was Jason Simpson, OJ's son from a prior marriage, and they were bracing OJ to get him to rat on Jason. OJ was no "icon" in the black community requiring knee jerk support. He was basically a white man in blackface. He married a white woman, hung out with black Republicans like Ward Connerly (the man who ended Affirmative Action in California Universities) and NEVER supported any "black" causes or institutions. The first time he was ever seen in a "black" church in L.A. was after his acquittal. To the extent blacks in LA were relieved by his conviction, it was because the evidence against OJ didn't smell right. Remember, this is a town where rich guys kill women all the time and get off - Claus Von Bulow, Robert Blake, etc. If you have a high-dollar attorney, they need to have you on video tape confessing in order to convict you (which is the only reason they convicted Phil Spector - they have him confessing on video tape).

MY reasoning (besides the cop I know) for thinking OJ was innocent:

1) The timeline. For the killing to go down according to the police theory, everything would've had to go perfectly in order for OJ to catch his plane. Things rarely go perfect in LA, if only because of the traffic.

2) The evidence. Yes, there was a microdot of blood in OJs Bronco. 2 other people (including Jason) had access to the Bronco and, given the nature of the killings and the timeline, there should've been a LOT more blood and to assume OJ got rid of bloody clothes, a murder weapon, etc. in the time period before catching the plane requires the belief that OJ was some sort of criminal genius who planned this all out step-by-step and executed it perfectly. I am not convinced that OJ even graduated HS (he went to a JC that was known for working with HS dropouts and getting them D-1 football eligible).

3) The crime itself. OJ had a plane to catch. Who goes over to their ex wife's place when they have to go out of town in an hour - which is what is required in the "crime of passion" theory. If one assumes premeditation, OJ was business partners with guys who could have had Nicole killed for $500. 50 year old rich guys don't stab people to death.

HAVING SAID THAT . . . I've been in rooms with OJ after his acquittal and I've determined that I'll never be alone with him.

Yes I've read those books too, I'm buying what you are selling JD. Neither does the LA DA's office or they would have prosecuted Jason. As far as I know, there is now statuate of limitations on murder, they can STILL prosecute OJ's son if they wanted to, but they don't. They don't because he didn't murder his step-mom. The murderer was found not guilty and was eventually arrested and convicted for another crime in Las Vegas.

Meh. The NYT still loves him. They are just doing these articles NOW because he already beat Romney and he can't be elected to a third term. They are trying to do HRC a big political favor by discrediting the president now so that she can distance herself (and her polices and what she believes in) from BHO. This is just another article intended to get the true moderates (the Reagan Democrats) to support HRC in 2016 and not bolt for the GOP the way just enough of them did in 2000. (Al Gore paid for Bill Clinton's sexual midconduct by losing just enough moderates in just the right states and just barely losing an election.)

Sorry, I wasn't clear. When I wrote "you" I didn't mean JD in California. I meant "you" as in this Ferguson situation you have a Dem mayor, governor, AG, and President involved in the investigation so justice will be served in the proper way so there should be no concern from the African American community.
