I read a story in the Sunday paper here about Alabama farmers plowing under their crops because they can't find workers (the implication being the tough Alabama immigration laws driving off the Mexicans).

The story went on to say how the farmers tried to hire Americans who would show up and work half a day and quit on them because the work was too hard.

They didn't mention in the story what the farmers were paying the Americans for that kind of work.

Sounds like they need a tomato version of the cotton gin.

It is the Festival of Lights. May you all have a grand and prosperous New Year!

You really don't know much about the south do you, Brook.
Heh. Well, I went to school in DC...which, for all intents and purposes, is only South geographically. Otherwise, I've been planted North of the Mason Dixon line my whole life. I thought, at least, my family's southern roots would allow me a peak into the life of those Grays and their comic habits during trips to Raleigh, Atlanta, Franklinton, NC or Dublin, GA. I guess not.

ANALYSIS: Warren Buffett Would Pay As Little As 0.2 Percent Tax Rate Under Rick Perry’s Tax Plan

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/1 ... tes-forms/

In fact, billionaire Warren Buffett, who has lamented the fact that he currently pays only 11 percent of his adjusted gross income in federal income taxes, would pay as little as 0.2 percent under Perry’s plan.

To put it in even better perspective, under Perry's plan, the following people would pay basically nothing on the following income (earnings taken from 2009 information found in Alpha Magazine...one of my industry's favorite periodicals):

James Simons

$2.5 billion

John Paulson

$2 billion

John Arnold

$1.5 billion

(Tied for 9th) David Harding and John Taylor

They made a measley $250 million

I could tell stories for hours highlighting the conspicuous consumption of these cats (and others who don't rank Top 10, but still clear $100M a year like it's nothing). Imagine making that cake and having, virtually, a zero tax liability?

If people only knew what this type of tax policy means. Even today, these cats pay 15% on that income, while everyday middle class workers are paying an effective rate 5 or 10 points higher.

I understand their desire to be discrete but why do they need a club? They just need to meet at each others houses.

They started doing that and the Reject group still showed up

It sounds like they tried that too and Repent showed up at the private residence and the local deputies showed up too... to make sure the sexual preverts in the house didn't do the godly people yelling at them on their lawn no harm with their sexual preversions.

Not sure how they are following the swingers moves so closely. Either Mr. Swinger's wife is ratting him out, or Repent is doing some wire tapping and bugging.

the issue is the sympathetic deputies to that repent group.

I'd have the meetings at my house with clearly marked no trespassing signs on my property and when they came on it I'd wail on them with baseball bats citing fear for my personal safety.

That's what some were saying their fear was...this ultimately escalating to violence. You know if someone did that, within 6 mos the house itself would be burned down, with scant chance of the perpetrator being caught.

On another note

Steve Jobs was brilliant and all, but it seems now that we have a little overvalue of Mockneck Steve going on in the world. They are making it sound as if he would have been the savior of other industries and our government, if given the chance.

Heh.

Steve Jobs was not a well-liked guy, even if he was respected. He was a control freak, mean, selfish and domineering at times. The only way he would work in government is if the government was a dictatorship. He would get fed up with his opposition, tired of the changing wants of the constituency and frustrated with the pace things got done. Government will always act like governments do, because the structure is totally opposite the private sector, from a "compensation" perspective.

speaking of prominence, I got an ad yesterday saying I had been selected to receive the very exclusive Visa "black" card.

yes, for only an annual fee of $495 and and interest rate of 16.9% I could be one of the 1% that qualify.

what a load of horseshit.
