Amelia Rayno of the Star Tribune is citing sources who are indicating that Alabama is reaching out to Richard Pitino to fill their vacancy after firing Anthony Grant. You may recall that Alabama was rather interested in Tubby Smith six years ago before hiring Grant, this has no bearing on today's discussion other than it is an interesting coincidence.

if that comes true, I'm going to be mad at Bama...I can't imagine how a real Bama fan would feel.

not because I have any particular dislike for Pitino but that is a horrible, horrible, last resort coaching hire for them/

Grant is /was/will be better than Pitino for the next 4 years.

Why would you be mad at Bama for hiring someone you think would be a terrible coach? Shouldn't you applaud the mistakes, perceived or actual, of your rival schools?

I hope they hire Pitino, somebody in this fucking league has to hire an unproven coach that might be worse than our asshole for god's sake.

because its just a bad move in general.

UK doesn't benefit from a weak SEC, regardless of an undefeated season

I am really surprised that Texas seems to have run their coaching search without even testing the waters on Mark Few. I guess its either certain that he only wants to coach Ganzaga now or is he just old news and people have forgotten about trying to lure him away. He's the best coach that's not at a national power or making big money.

I don't think Pitino Jr. is that bad of a coach.

He's got a slim track record so we don't really know.

I get the feeling that there will be so little pressure or motivation to improve that he is going to just be a full time drunk there.

and that isn't me wishing ill on him - its just that is about the same as high school coach - the former coach of Kentucky now at a junior college at an age where he probably doesn't have time to start over.

He went to school there as well. Probably the last place he's still considered a legend
