Malaysia now lashing out at the rebels for denying international observers access to the site for a second straight day. Reporters have observed looting. Two days later and nothing's been done about the bodies. Several of the 'guards' have been visibly drunk

Seems pretty likely these Russian-backed assholes shot the plane down

It's horrible, and making it worse overall for mankind is that at least a dozen prominent AIDS researchers were on the plane - one of which, was a veritable 'rock star' in the research community.

Nothing will happen. We can't do anything about it. The EU can't do much about it or Comrade Putin will cut off their supply of natural gas.

I'm reading Tom Clancy's last book, Command Authority. His plot predicted the current situation almost to a T. The President of Russia (obviously based on Putin) invades Crimea, followed by the use of special forces and Russian mafia goons-for-hire to launch a campaign to destablize Eastern Ukraine and wrest it away from the central government in Kiev.

Spooky accurate. Clancy died a year ago.

You really translate "Moordenaars" to killers and not to murderers?

What do we care? It's a continent away. A few stern words from Kerry ought to do it.

Haven't been able to ready Clancy in years - too formulaic now. Last Clancy novel for me was when everyone in the National Command Authority is killed (plane crashes into the Capitol rotunda during the State of the Union) and Jack Ryan becomes POTUS. Or maybe that was the end of one and the next one was about Ryan being President. That's probably been 15+ years.

Clancy worshipped Reagan and lionizes the President in all of his Reagan-era novels, then slams all of the Presidents in his novels after Reagan is out.

Hunt for Red October was a fabulous book and an even better movie. I was on the USS Houston (attack sub) doing a midshipman cruise shortly after reading the book and was amazed at how "right" Clancy got it.

'Debt of Honor' is the one you are thinking of, with the Japanese pilot flying into the the Capital building.

I think the last one I read was "Bear and the Dragon' or whatever it was called. Whichever one where China invades Russian Siberia.

Europe has a lot of power here too. Who is he going to sell it to if not Europe? China? They can't buy ALL of what Europe was purchasing and would flat out refuse to pay the same rate.

Putin signed a deal with China a few months ago and they squeezed a super discounted rate out of him.

The UK, France, Poles, and now the Dutch don't seem ambivalent about confronting Putin. It's primarily Germany that's the holdup. And I think they're more worried about their business connections within Russia rather than the nat gas.

Dutch PM calls Putin...demands he use his influence over the rebels to allow OSCE access and stop the looting and tampering with the bodies

No no no. It's ALWAYS Bush's fault. Even after 7 years.

Debt of Honor was another Clancy plot that proved prescient. The plot which had a terrorist flying an airliner into a building to kill thousands of people foretold 9/11.

BTW, I don't remember them ever announcing Clancy's cause of death. I guess it was either suicide or something embarrassing like what happened to David Carradine.

First theory I heard was murder. He was writing something that TPTB didn't want out. That, of course, was from a Red State friend of mine.
