Prior to becoming a heathen, I recall a woman at church who never shut the fuck up when I was a kid. Her name? Irene...First thing I thought about when I heard this was supposed to be a monster of a storm.

Well, so far, the power keeps going in and out, and there are a bunch of big limbs down. We only have one tree down so far, but it's a big ass Hickory tree. Fuck.

Calhoun can cheat forever and I'll gladly look the other way. He single-handedly saved College Basketball from k*rzythead having 6 rings. Come to think of it, every year Jimmy's won the title has been in a season in which dook* was the overwhelming favorite to win it all. Calhoun will always be my favorite non-UNC basketball coach.

Cold beer makes hurricanes tolerable.

I'm just pissed that the tree I want to take out hasn't fallen, but the hickory tree is going to cut up nicely into firewood that I can use to make good coals for barbecuing a pig or two.

It still hasn't hit my way yet, but my wife has gone predictably overboard preparing. To me, it feels like the "3 in of snow in Atlanta" scenario where everyone goes batshit, but on the grand scheme of things, it'll just be a bad rainstorm in NYC. I understand the severe prep in NC and other place south of the Northeast. However, NYC has gone as far as shutting down the subway system until Monday afternoon...which totally fucks most workers here. No need to keep the system down that long, considering the worst should be past us by 6pm Sunday evening. I think Bloomberg did it to save money on the MTA.

I will say, my only real concern is on my kids. They're so small, if the heavy winds come in overnight, it may well scare them out of their sleep and basically make them inconsolable.

Tons of trees down in Wilson, big ass trees. They might've downgraded Irene b/c it didn't have the sustained winds, but this bitch was gusting its ass off with some very powerful bursts. Pine trees swaying and whipping in the wind like pipe cleaners in front of a big ass fan. Going to be very interesting to see what happens if this thing hits a big city in any kind of similar fashion as it did down here. Going to be trash, glass, signs, hell, anything not bolted down (and plenty of stuff that WAS bolted down) is going to be slung all over the place...

Wayne County is under a state of emergency. This bastard was/is moving slow. Yeah, the winds had weakened, but the rain and battering by the winds wore stuff down over time.
