Made it back home from vacation. Sorry, maybe my ride will flip next year.

Best Highways: Again, Kentucky. I-75 through Kentucky is a breeze even doing 90. Most lanes are 3-4 deep. Always a great state to make up time.

Worst Highways: South Carolina. Good Lord. I had to pull over 3 times just to tighten my car battery so it wouldn't crap out on us. 95 in SC is like riding a roller coaster without being buckled in.

Best Workout: Doing 85 up & down the North Carolina/Tennessee mountains on 26/40. I woke this morning sore in the shoulders from fighting that. Well worth it.

Most Retarded Drivers: The people of Tennessee. Someone needs to let those idiots know that the left lane is for passing. Not for fingering your 16 year old cousin

Asheville area is my favorite spot on the east coast.

Yeah, the surf breaking on the shore is quite soothing when trying to sleep.

We dropped off the young 'un in Columbia last week to start her freshman year at USC. I concur with Rat on his assessment of the roads in SC, they're horrible....

I've driven thru the back roads of South Carolina. Granted this was more than 10 years ago but I don't recall them being particularly bad. I drove from Georgetown to Charleston to Savannah which was probably a more popularly driven route. During that same time period I drove the back roads of Arkansas and was appalled at what I saw. Not so much the condition of the roads although in some places they weren't that far off from being gravel due to the breakup of the pavement but seeing electric lines and power poles leaning over, in some cases the power lines actually holding up the poles. And this wasn't after a hurricane , this was just everyday life

I'm sure there are some wonderful places in Arkansas, but I've spent extended time in the more rural parts of the state and I've yet to see any. I'm just not impressed with that whole Tex-Arkana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska,Iowa stretch of the country. If the state has some scenery - mountains, huge lakes, whatever - that can make up for alot of the bad, but those states are like a necessary evil you have to deal with in order to see the west (by car). Its just a void.

Many of the rural counties still have several dirt roads. It is bad.

Are you going to the game on the 29th?

I was only talking about the highways. 75, 640, 40, 26 & 95. I took backroads into Savannah an they were ok except for the old farts.
