I wonder what internet meltdowns were like back in the '70s or '80s.

His real position is that global warming is a hoax.
I don't believe it's a hoax. I do believe the promoted effects of such are greatly exaggerated.

I gotta say, I can't remember ever seeing an elected president straight up just start trying to do everything he said he was going to do in the campaign.

That's because he can. Most of them don't have that luxury.

What?

What effects are exaggerated? Holy fucking cow. The receding glaciers? The barren coral reefs? Proliferation of extended heat waves? Changing pH balance in the ocean? Are any of those exaggerated?

Luck and advocacy are huge factors in people's success.

Just being born in the US and away from center [that was Freudian] [EDIT:]certain areas in the country puts you on a trajectory that is better than most of the world...without doing a single thing.

I had a conversation with a friend who was feeding some "bootstrap" talk (even though she wasn't speaking about herself, just parroting the lines the guys she dates say). I broke down the subtle differences that occur when you go through college using debt and works to land their first apartment, versus the person who goes through college paid for and when they get out their parents give them the cash for a down payment on a studio apartment in Manhattan.

By the time those two people are 40, coming out of the same school, having the same job and living in the same city...the one without the debt and moved that studio twice over and is in a $1M tudor in a lazy suburb is SO FAR ahead of the other.

It happens and it's fine. However, I just get annoyed when those people like I've outlined act judgmental on others like they didn't have a huge start.

(then take that scenario and run it through 4 generations and the spread gets wider)

I agree, its absolutely a real thing. Theres just two concerns: What does that mean you do about it? Secondly, although this nice Australian cartoon has given its characters nice, even cartoon skin tones, I feel like for the most part use of these arguments in this country has devolved into racial stereotyping and focus on "white privelege" for example.

1. I don't think there is anything you can do about it, only call it out when privilege is leveraged and packaged as if it is something that's not
2. White privilege is just one of the many. There's male privilege. There's geographic privilege. There probably are others, too. I just don't know them. White privilege gets a big headline all the time because this country was built on that doctrine of white exceptionalism. It was turned later into American Exceptionalism...but it started being only about white males.

I think the main point is to draw attention to the reality of situations. History has shown that groups are almost always lead to believe that it is something they did...and only they did...that lead to a particular lot in life. That is true for "success" or "failure." The privilege focus is to strip away the false cloaks that insulate some groups from owning the inequality.

I know being a man in America, even a black man, affords me a level of privilege that I take advantage of constantly. It really is a struggle to remind myself of that fact, at times, when I realize that something the woman in my office says is taken in one way, while me saying the same is not viewed like it.

interesting trump interview last night

among things I didn't know--the day after Romney lost trump patented "make America great again"

the stock market has risen 9% since his election

everything he's done has been pointed at creating jobs and protecting our house from who knows

the discussion was an hour long on abc and nothing was offlimits--his logic was clear in most areas and his executive orders are follow throughts on what the voters wanted

kudos to the transition and Obama

I have no clue why he makes an ass of himself over whpo showed up at his inaguation or how many people voted illegally at this point but he can rant and rave all he wants if this country is doing something to increase the GDP and increase the working class and decrease entitlements

You expect Mexicans to use legal channels if the remittances are taxed? That $24B will drop down to $18M faster than you can say trans-American drug corridor.
