isn't there a ferry you can take to the FQ?

Stay in Angola. A nice little suburb and a neat ferry ride away.

Heaven and hell and sin and redemption are just philosophy to me, a system to make sense out of life. But here in Angola, heaven and hell and sin and redemption aren't philosophy. They are the answers to why you're here and who you are and where you are going to end up.

screw it, I got a La Quinta Inn in Gretna and I'll take the ferry to the FQ. I'll worry about how to get back to the hotel when I get there.

I'm delighted that eCat will be on hand to watch Carolina win #6. Extra gravy will be if UK manages to sneak into the FF and we dispatch them in the early game or, even better, we whip them in the finals...

Gretna is fine. Stay away from Algiers and parts of Westwego, but really those areas have had some recent regentrification.

Anyway, please trust me. Spend some extra cheese and get a room within walking distance of the Dome. The ferry stops running at midnight (or used to). You'll thank me later.

You're talking an extra $500 bucks or so on a 4-night stay and this is 7 months away. Squirrel away an extra $20 a week in the travel budget and you've got it covered.

seriously. I agree with AA. Getting stuck across the river when you are trying to get to a function (such as a Kentucky March Madness basketball game) can be prolonged and frustrating. You don't need a great hotel, but the Le Richelieu is at least in the quarter and easy cab ride to the Dome. I think I'd rather be in Metarie than have to cross a bridge or take the ferry.

We're staying across the river in Marrero. The person booking our trip for us said she couldn't find anything close to reasonable in the FQ.

I'm pulling strings for one last gasp - we're hosting a multi million dollar event with a Sheraton - I"m hoping they'll pull some strings and see if they can get me a room in the quarter.

Book something in the Quarter now. Work the Sheraton angle (the Sheraton New Orleans is on Canal directly accross from the Quarter - would be a perfect choice and it's a great hotel - they show booked, though). Cancel the FQ hotel if your Sheratin connection comes through.

Hell, have a yard sale. Sell some stuff on eBay. Take some better pics of your wife's and I 'll send you some cash via paypal.

When I booked the Monteleone three weeks ago, they had rooms available. They show nothing now. It's how all of them will be in a very short time.

Hurricane Irene is heading straight for Morehead City. I went down for Ivan and Isabel to observe firsthand the mighty power of nature, they were both fairly rough (rough enough that their names were retired), but Irene is reportedly going to be of a different magnitude. I'm still debating on whether to go down there and ride it out...
