They could've created 70,000 jobs in Mexico for that kind of money...
that's a good point.

--------------

President-elect Donald Trump dramatically strong-armed House Republicans into line Tuesday in his first Washington power play, after they voted to gut an ethics watchdog in a manner that undercut his vow to drain the establishment "swamp."
Trump made clear his anger at the move on his Twitter account, and GOP lawmakers hurriedly changed plans to target the independent panel, backing down in a controversy that threatened to overshadow the dawn of a new conservative era in Washington.

In an emergency meeting just before noon Tuesday, House Republican lawmakers voted to strip the move on the ethics agency from a package of rules that is due to be voted upon later in the House of Representatives. Their decision to adopt the measure Monday night had opened splits in the GOP and put House Speaker Paul Ryan and Trump on opposite sides of a key issue on the first day of the 115th Congress.
The swift developments were a first sign of how Trump plans to govern and wield the power of his presidency -- and his Twitter account -- to bend Washington to his will and an early indication of the new power dynamic between Congress and the White House.

I was kidding, but I wouldn't be pessimistic if they could pull off that kind of set piece. Quite the opposite. But I don't really think such a thing would be possible on that kind of scale, impressive as it would be. Trying to get 150 congressmen on board for something like that would be like herding cats...

I will say one thing Trump has going for him (I guess this could be viewed as a positive) is that the usual political maneuvering that congress is used to using against the president probably isn't going to work against him, and in fact is just as likely (or even more likely) to backfire on them. They know Trump doesn't give a shit about his poll numbers or approval rating and I bet they're scared shitless about that. What's more, they probably even more scared that if they launch some campaign or give speeches designed to make him look bad, he's likely to be viewed even more favorably by a lot of people. It is kinda funny (or something) to watch these yokel congressmen puffing up on a piece of internal House business, only to see them fold like scolded children when Trump shoots a stern tweet condemning their original action...

Man, I wonder what this inauguration is going to look like. I've been to a few, never seen anything like Obama's in 2008 (at least four times as many people there as, say, Bush's first one, and probably more than that). I'm guessing there is going to be a yuge turnout for Trump's as well, but also a pretty large contingent of SJW protesters and the like, as well as plenty of less motivated but nonetheless curious members of the opposition. It could get testy...

when I post something about Trump, like Ford canceling plans to move jobs to Mexico

its more of a "holy shit, this is actually happening".

I'm coming from a place of no way can Hillary get elected, so if Trump does anything that I see as a positive, its somewhat inspiring to me. I'll take whatever I get positive after just hoping that Hillary didn't get her shot.

There is no doubt he going to do some stuff that pisses me off. Initially I thought selecting Pruitt was a horrible idea to head up the EPA . Then I read about it and realized its actually genius to me.

We've been conditioned over the years to believe the government has to act a certain way, and its refreshing that Trump is just saying "fuck that noise, I'm doing this" -like we've been conditioned to believe the EPA should just overreach and make declarations for the good of the environment without any regard to the impact it has on issues outside the environment. -Some people believe that's the mandate of the EPA - the more extreme they become in their attempts to protect water, land, etc, the better it is as an agency. Alot of thinking in regards to the government is that way. The BATF, Homeland Security, and some respects the government did it in spite of what people thought - the BLM, IRS, and I'm sure many others. Its possible to say that DDT gives you cancer while not declaring a man can't build a pond to collect water on his property

Is everything going to work? of course not, but FDR had a bunch of stuff - and I mean a bunch of stuff - that failed during his presidency. Trump isn't taking a scalpel right now, he's taking a hatchet - and that's going to be messy and will often miss the mark - but in the end I'm assuming we're going to get less government that we had under Obama, and certainly less than we would have had under Hillary....and maybe America will be noticeably better for it.

another thing trump is doing is ramping up the gdp of this country --less then 2 % last year already setting up the environment for a 3-4 % rise in gdp in the coming years.
you have to encourage the apples of the world to stop sending all their money investments overseas

fucked up as it is he knows how to beat the system and how everybody else is beating the system and most important of all how to encourage them to invest in America again

I don't have that impression of him at all. He knows the fairly narrow subset of real estate investment and resorts.

Manufacturing? International investment? Macro economics? All remains to be seen.

Isn't everybody going broke running casinos except the companies with protfolios in Macau? Caesars/Harrah's seem to have managed bankruptcy despite not even being anchored only to Atlantic City.

Apparently he sold his interest. I visited one of his properties in California when doing Joshua Tree several years back.
