Also, I mean come on, eCat, did it not even cross your mind that Hillary might've won more than 57 freakin counties in the US?? That's barely one per state. For christ's sake, she won 25 counties in North Carolina....

This is an argument about the fundamental nature of election. The people don't elect the president. The states elect the president.
The fact that pretty much every state legislature uses a popular vote to select its electors, which vote unanimously for the winner of that state (This is in order to increase the power of that state's influence over the election. California's majority choice gets more weight in the electoral vote if they put in 55 votes for Clinton rather than 35 for Clinton and 18 for Trump and 2 for Johnson or 1 each for Johnson and Stein or whatever it would be otherwise), gives the illusion to the uneducated masses, that we all participate in a uniform vote where we all get the same voice, which we don't, we only participate in our state election process.
Frankly, the people who don't want Trump-like demagogues are going the absolute WRONG direction if they want to get rid of the electoral college based on this election. If anything this election is a WARNING that the more the masses of people directly choose the candidates and the electors leads to electing shitty leaders.

Everyone is shitting on the Carrier deal about the big tax incentives and such for them to keep a 1000 jobs here. There is no way that corporations pay the biggest percentage of tax revenue into our system. I am willing to bet that workers do. You know, all of us that go to work everyday and get a paycheck on the 15th and 30th. So what if we give them a tax incentive to stay?? It keeps 1000 people paying into the system. And how does the economy go? By people working, they are paying into the system, spending money in the economy and the big ole circle just keep happening.
So yeah, offer incentive for business to keep jobs here. That is what is needed to keep paying into the system.

Yeah, but it's kinda like the incentive of an all you can eat buffet at Golden Corral. It's works good most of the time, but then you show up and wipe out all the profits...

Whichever poor sap that agrees to lead Trump's State Department is going to be taking the hardest and probably worst job on earth.

I've never had an expectation he's going to get everything right
But it seems kind of absurd to me that he can't take a call from the president of Taiwan because if he does, it risks decades of diplomacy with China.
There may be Trump supporters who agree or disagree with his actions in regards to meeting with foreign leaders but what Paul Ryan , Nancy Pelosi , a NY Time Reporter or some lobbyist filled Washington think tank believes about it means little to me, and given there is no shortage of people to label me in some derogative term based on whatever Trump is doing - naive, xenophobic, homophobic, racist, term to be named later, I now ignore every cry wolf moment that is raised about him.
Now if you want to talk about his choice of Tom Price as Health and Human Services I'd have that conversation, if you want to talk about Trump dismantling Net Neutrality, I'd have that conversation.
Trump trying to change up a foreign policy that has resulted in Trade agreements that push for open trade, an open border , and an involvement in the middle east that has cost us more than a trillion dollars in the last 15 years, along with the instability of the EU Union and the rise of Russia flexing it military strength seems to be big enough issues that I'm not going to get worked up about phone calls that piss off India and China. His campaign was about pissing off alot of foreign countries who have held us diplomatic hostages in order to avoid confrontation. There may or may not be any wisdom or benefit to the America for doing this, but that was his platform and now that is his mandate.
If phone calls get you worked up enough to post more than once about it, you're going to be posting more than you ever have on here in the next 4 years.

1979? If Jimmy Carter wasn't worried, why should we? Seems to me, the decision to start appeasing China was internal based on developing economic relations with them than foreign policy fears.

I am not a Trump fan, but this isn't a big deal, imo. Obama is set to block the Chinese from buying Aixtron (and it won't be the first acquisition block he has made against the Chinese), last year we sold more weapons to Taiwan (to Beijing's loud protestations), a couple of years before that, we met with the Japanese and amended our treaty to aid them in protection of the Senkaku Islands (which is a direct thumb in the eye to the Chinese), and for decades we have sailed warships through the South China Sea despite Beijing crying loudly and shrilly. In other words, pissing the Chinese off is not something we are historically concerned about.
My biggest problem with it was that he is president-elect and not president.

It's only a matter of time until the gross incompetence lack of experience and preparation will cause a big problem. If not this China thing then something else.
