I liked the way eCat posted some Baddour quote just before goldie started in, as though it was some type of flu shot. It must have worked for e.

I went to the game last night. Didn't seem like we'd even be able to make a game of it for most of the game, but somehow they started missing a bunch of shots and making turnovers. Notre Dame is like a classic Dook team, without the big man. If they're on, they'll be tough to beat, but you have to figure they'll turn cold at some point and lose badly. Didn't happen last night, though, even though they tried to give it away at the end, but we didn't have the wherewithal to take it. During the post game radio stuff, they said we were 1-14 on fg attempts to close out the game, and we still lost by one. Fucking A, that's the kind of game we used to win regularly. One bright spot, Theo Pinson seems like he's going to be a player. We are average at best. How the fuck can Notre Dame get 3 guys who can consistently hit the 3, and we don't even have one. ONE. Goddamn, it's basketball, find a couple of fucking guy who can shoot the fucking ball...

Recruiting isn't going to get better for UNC. That black cloud is chasing off kids.

A lot of people at that game were disgused as empty seats. If they get rid of Roy, he takes his retirement and rats them out, and he knows where every dead body is buried Nonetheless they need to clean house and take their lumps. With the right coach a basketball program can recover a lot faster than a football disaster.

I'd bet Roy is gone next year by his own choice - he isn't going to want to ride UNC thru a series of 19-11 seasons watching UL replace UNC as Duke's big rival in the ACC.

There weren't many empty seats last night, and almost all of them were in the upper deck. Crowd was good and loud, we just couldn't close the deal...

UNC reminds of Kentucky in 1989, falling apart before the storm even hits. Inspite of it all look how quickly UK recovered. Pitino had the Wildcats back on top of the SEC in three years. Final 4 in four years. The UNC program is strong enough to recover in a few years, with the right coach. Roy Williams cannot be that coach.

Eddie Sutton was an ass that was a borderline alcoholic.
Williams has his jerk moments but he is generally a respectable and likeable guy.

Well, like UK, I think UNC has done enough to be considered an ultra-premium brand. Like Fifer said, even with the "Kentucky's shame", they were back on top with the right coach and a few years of penance. I don't know what the final fallout of this AfAm shit is going to be, but it's already been going on for 3 years, I think most people (and recruits) just get numb to it after awhile. So hopefully it will just go away thru attrition. But whatever happens, I do think with the right coach we can inject new life into the program in a short period of time. And I'm not even trying to run Roy off, I still think he can get the job done, I just think a hot new (younger) coach would generate some excitement. But you don't get rid of somebody like Roy or Boeheim or K just b/c you hit a snag (Roy and Boeheim) or lose in the early rounds of the tourny multiple times (K) just to generate some excitement....

Eddie was not a borderline alcoholic, he's a falling down drunk, as is Denny Crum and Billie Gilespe.
UNC would be much better off to get it over with. When the NCAA does punish a school, the punishment is a lot less severe if the school cooperates, says Mea Cupla, and puts all the info out on the table. When they try to stall it, and hush it up, the NCAA brings down the hammer.

Ironically enough, many UNC fans feel like the administration fucked this whole deal up by being too forthcoming and proactive...

the problem with UNC is their mentality on inbreeding
If Williams goes will he have a say in selecting the successor? Of course given that its been proved that most of the UNC athletes since 1993 are stupid as a box of rocks, there is probably little coaching pool to choose from
but my point is - will a UNC go after a Brad Stevens or a Shaka Smart or will they go with someone with bloodline to UNC as they have in the past?
clearly the path to success is get a mouthy Italian with an ego the size of Texas.

That was just about finding a Dean Smith guy. There's not really many of them left that would be viable replacements for Roy. Certainly not Jason Capel or Jeff Lebo. UNC will have to go beyond the Dean legacy when they hire another coach.
