A great D-Day article - this one about Shug Jordan's participation in it.

Good reading. Didn't know that about Jordan

Shrug was a bone fide war hero, and a gentleman of the highest caliber. No doubt. Bryant served in the Navy (Africa, iirc) but didn't have the heroic career of his colleague across the state.

Looks like a lot of the same crew is holding down the fort. Anybody have any first-hand recommendations on places to eat in downtown KC? I'm going to be there for a week starting tomorrow.

There is a place that has steak somewhere, too. Hope that helps.

Hey Bonfired. Don't be such a stranger. I need all your help holding back the barbarians at the gate.
Sorry I know nothing about KC.

No worries...I'm not going to have that much time to get out and about, as this is mostly a working trip. I'll try to drop by more often. My last post on this thread before today was at the end of the mind-numbingly terrible 2012 season. What a difference a year (and a coach) made. I was depressed for about a day after losing to FSU, but considering what had to go right for Auburn to even get there, I couldn't stay down very long.
The AU athletic department should put me on their payroll. I've been to 4 Auburn-TAMU sporting events in College Station (2 baseball, 1 basketball, 1 football) and Auburn is 4-0 in those games. I think Auburn and A&M play twice in basketball this coming year, so I'll have to see what Bruce Pearl can cobble together this coming season. I will try to make the Auburn-A&M game on November 8.
Not much else going on...finished year 17 of teaching, and could retire in 10. That seems very strange to think about...I was 22 just a few years ago, I think.

Stay away from those games, jerk.

Heheh...I also went to the 63-21 A&M curbstomping of Auburn in '12, so I guess I should be good to go this fall, if form holds.
It's definitely been weird having the two of them be in the same conference, something I never imagined 20+ years ago when I moved to Texas.

Hey, Bonfired is in a difficult situation. He's both an Auburn fan/graduate AND an aTm fan/grad.
I'm betting that, when aTm and AU play in any sport, he'll do the right thing and cheer for AU.

At one point, Bryant was stationed in Chapel Hill at the Navy's preflight school. He coached the unit's football team. Gerald Ford also went through there, as did George H.W. Bush, Doc Blanchard, Gerald Ford, Otto Graham and Ted Williams.

Sounds like the best collection of football talent ever assembled in Chapel Hill.
(Basketball is a completely different story.)

Ford was so dumb he had to go through twice.
