Love the non-con.

Georgetown (we'll beat you worse than the chinks), VCU (Grant's old team), Dayton (Grant's alma mater), Oakland (who made some noise last year), Kansas State, Okie State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, and possibly some more decent teams in the Puerto Rico Tip-off.

Detroit? Is that the Detroit that usually plays good ball or is that Detroit Mercy?

The only Detroit I know of is Detroit Mercy. They had a good season about 10 years ago.

It was a joke and as soon as a Hoya would've stomped out a Bayi player, it would've perpetuated a stereotype Chinese have about Black players as it is.

Funny enough, a fight did break out amongst Bayi (and fighting in Chinese soccer happens quite often, fwiw) and I think it was an American university team...or maybe club team...and a Bayi player ended up in a neckbrace.
The Chinese Team apparently showed up at the airport as the Hoyas were set to depart to make amends.

That would have stung if UC hadn't finished runner-up for the National Championship last year.

Nope, in basketball. UC made the NCAA tourney and lost to tourney winner UConne. Ergot, UC was runner-up.

Didn't know that was a Detroit Mercy?

Isn't Detroit where Dickie V. coached?

I like the way you think, Mook.

Alabama beat Kentucky during the regular season, so I count that as a Final Four. Banner hanging time.

You know, with the talk of the Duke and Georgetown and even Hawai'i trips to China this summer, along with the fact that even Wright State is currently playing in Italy, it makes me really appreciate how funny it was that UC went to Canada last year. Canada! How excited those kids must have been to go to ... Canada. How delighted were they to test their skills against the greatest teams that ... Canada had to offer. How happy they must have been to know that if they didn't make the NBA, they could still extend their basketball playing days and try to use some of the contacts they made to play professional ball in ... Canada.

I have to drive to a place called Blowing Rock, NC, this weekend - a stone's throw from Boone, I'm told - for a wedding. I will play my Pete Papageorge CD at full volume and wave at young hedgehog as I drive through the general Research Triangle area. I'll also see if I can find Buzz Peterson wandering the streets of Boone as I don't think he's doing much else these days.

And our carpool ride just went bye bye. Any of you North Carolinian types recommend a spot to stop overnight betwixt our nation's fine capitol city and Boone, NC? Looks like it's about a seven hour drive.
