At least they still get to play football. Even if its now gonna be at a 1-aa level for the next 5 years. It can help pay the fine.

I just don't think this was under the purview of the NCAA's mission of preserving amateurism.

:::sigh:::AlabamAlum wrote:Yes, the NCAA has been on a B1G tear here lately. Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Nebraska all on probation. In the SEC we have SoCar and Tennessee ...and that's it.
True about our probation. Bruce Pearl served bbq sandwichs to Aaron Craft and family off campus, lied about it after OSU turned him in, tried to make amends to late, and the rest is history.
Coach shoulda stirred that bbq with his schlong.

Gene said that just before he grabbed the NCAA representative by the back of the collar and the rear belt loop and threw him out the door of his office. And afterwards, opened the door.At times like these I'm reminded of the words of Coach Stallings: " Generally speaking, if the NCAA is for it, I'm against it."

Agreed. Spin it any way you wish, and I want the punishment to fit the crime as well, but any penalties from this should have come from the justice department. If PSU was found guilty of fostering a poor enviornment by NOT reporting events, so be it.AlabamAlum wrote:I just don't think this was under the purview of the NCAA's mission of preserving amateurism.

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Did some research today and between 2004 and 2017, the Tide will have played only two true OOC road games: at Duke and at Penn State. All major non-conf foes are now being played in these "neutral site" games.
So the question becomes: what is The Nick afraid of?

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Research? lmao.
(1) Nick Saban was not at Alabama in 2004, 2005, or 2006.
(2) The neutral site games create a buzz, a bowl-like atmosphere.
(3) The schedules past 2013 are not written in stone.
(4) Two crystal trophies in the past three years and three overall: whatever he's doing, it's working.
(5) Revise and resubmit.

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
I'm aware Mr. Saban is not wholly responsible for Alabama's poor attempts at scheduling.
Indeed, the Penn State series was originally scheduled for 2004-2005. Alabama begged Penn State to postpone, believing that too tough a series to play while on probation, and the Nits foolishly agreed. Obviously, that series was scheduled long before the Nick stepped foot on campus and put an end to traveling to opponents' stadiums.
It's unlikely that Bama will play a neutral site game outside of the South. Not in NYC or LA, no matter how much of a "bowl like atmosphere" it creates. The sad part of these games is that they also rob Bama season ticket holders of the chance to see high quality OOC games in Tuscaloosa. Instead they must travel to Atlanta or Dallas if they want to see Bama in a halfway decent OOC game.
The schedule might not be set in stone, but with neutral games lined up till at least 2014, it's unlikely any challenging games will be added till 2015 at the earliest. 2017 Bama travels to East Lansing; that's the next true road game of record. Presumably after The Nick has retired

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
The average, loyal Bama fan pays too damn much and works too damn hard at the Food Lion to be treated to shitshows like Western Kentucky and Millsaps each and every damn week. He's already paid for season tickets, for crissakes. Now he should pay to go see Bama in Atlanta in Sept? And then again for the SEC title game? And then travel wherever for the playoffs and the national title?
It's for these people that I fight.

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
You would be better served by "researching" (lmao) Ohio State's myriad issues, but if you must persist, I will say again, I like the big neutral-site games, and one of these games every year is as difficult as a home-and-home.
Wait, weren't you the one who used to pen those ridiculous screeds about Florida's out-of-conference?
I disagree. First, Dallas - where we play this year - isn't what most consider 'the south'. Second, I think Saban would absolutely love a game in a major venue on the west coast. He recruits out there and any chance to get the Bama "brand" in front of them would be something he would love. So, wait until an offer is made and he turns it down before you make your leap. As far as NYC, it isn't a big college town, so I don't think that's realistic. It's unlikely that Bama will play a neutral site game outside of the South. Not in NYC or LA
