We didn't have open carry in 1787.
Didn't have the elected tyranny we have today either. We were defining and building our liberty/freedom, now, not so much.

I'm waiting for the first case of two CC or OC taking one another out.
a situation breaks out where citizen #1 feels the need to fire at an individual who he feels is a threat
citizen #1 then gets confronted by citizen #2 who misinterprets the situation and fires at him in a fog of war type situatipon
the liklihood of a freindly fire situation is much higher then the threat of a badguy
which is why the military refuses to arm its soldiers in garrison

Okay so if you haven't watched the videos you should. My favorite line from the first one:
"There is no more deadly weapon system in the world than a Russian with 2 AA12s. And keep in mind don't try this at home. I am professional Russian."
LMAO

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I don't think the risk of friendly fire between two OC/ CC guys is greater than the risk of a bad guy when you consider that there are over 300,000 robberies in the US per year (which doesn't include other violent crimes such as rape, assault, murder). Amazingly (to me, anyway), there are over 5000 bank robberies in the US a year. Had no idea it was that high.
Apparently, suicide is a huge issue with our military. Maybe they're trying to cut that down as well as the potential for friendly fire?

As a single male with nobody to protect but myself, I'd much rather take the miniscule chance that someone would come and kill me or rob me or whatever than the chance that I'd accidentally shoot someone I knew who was acting stupid or trying to prank me or something.
Plus I now have the flimsy veil of protection offered by condominium complex gates and after hours "security" paid by the HOA.

Suicide is a huge issue because we weren't prepared for a decade-long war, so there were almost no preparations made for soldiers with PTSD, etc.AlabamAlum wrote:I don't think the risk of friendly fire between two OC/ CC guys is greater than the risk of a bad guy when you consider that there are over 300,000 robberies in the US per year (which doesn't include other violent crimes such as rape, assault, murder). Many of the suicides are soldiers who get discharged and then either cannot find jobs or cannot cope with life back in the US, so they re-up, volunteer for Afghanistan and then kill themselves. If they die in theatre, their family gets $100,000.00, regardless of the circumstances.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
So the TN "anything goes" gun bill got killed yesterday on a technicallity. Here follows a synopsis of the whole sordid affair:
2012, NRA targets TN House Leader Debra Maggart for defeat. Maggart, conservative and lifetime NRA member, was the highest-ranking R who sided with TN businesses in the guns-in-parking-lots legislative battle. The NRA made good on their threat and pumped 160k into ads connecting her to oprama and gun-grabbers; she was subsequently upset by a neophyte who couldn't answer simple questions about how the legislature worked.
The message to lawmakers was loud and clear. You could be right of John Birch, but if you didn't cowtow to the NRA 100% of the time you could be replaced.
Two weeks ago the "anything goes open carry" bill came to the Senate floor, and the vote was 27-2 in favor. I'd wager that 80% considered it a bogus bill but voted for it anyhow.
Yesterday a House subcommittee killed the version that came to them because it would cost 100k to change the wording on existing permits. That technicallity - hiding behind fiscal stewardship - enabled legislators to save face and they voted 11-2 against "A G O C." Even though backers of the bill had pledged donations to cover the 100k on their own.

Obamacare Wins U.S. Bond Converts as Slowing Costs Tame CPI, by Danie Kruger MS Money
Regardless of what Americans think about Obamacare, reining in health-care costs is winning the support of investors in U.S. Treasuries.
After doubling in the past two decades, medical expenses rose less last year than at any time since Harry S. Truman was president in 1949, helped by Medicare reimbursement cuts. The rollout of Obama's signature 2010 law will hold down consumer prices for years to come as millions of Americans obtain coverage uner the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, BNP Paribas SA and Credit Suisse Group AG said.

Obamacare May Cut Auto Insurance Rates, Study Says
Obamacare may lower the cost of car insurance. A new study from the respected RAND Corporation says the price of several different types of coverage, including business liability, workers’ compensation and auto insurance may be reduced.
That’s because those policies often pay for treating injured people who don’t have medical coverage.
The Affordable Care Act has increased the share of people covered by private health insurance and Medicaid. The changes “can generate potential cost changes as high as 5 percent or more in particular states and insurance lines,” says the RAND report.
As coverage grows, insurers won’t have to put as much money aside to pay for accidents involving uninsured accident victims.

Uh oh.
Slower Health Spending Growth May Boost Jobs, by USA Today
Health care costs rose by only 1.3% a year from 2010 to 2013, a new report from the Council on Economic Advisers shows. That's the lowest increase in a three-year period on record.
And this admission..from people who REALLY don't like oprama:
Health Cost Increases in 2013 Were Lowest in Decade: Aon Hewitt, by Insurance Journal
There was some relatively good news in health care this year: U.S. employers and their employees saw the lowest health care premium rate increases in 2013 in more than a decade, according to global consultant Aon Hewitt.

Yes, we anxiously await to see which Senator will be the first to issue a campaign commercial running on ObamaCare. I'm sure a local gobbler will post in a nano second.

Also from USA Today.....
Four years after it was signed into law — and six years after the issue helped elect Barack Obama president — the health care overhaul is poised to help define yet another election. At least at the moment, it is increasing the odds that Republicans will be able to score the net gain of six seats they need to control the U.S. Senate for the final two years of the president's tenure.
Americans continue to disapprove of the law, now by 50%-37%. The share who say they don't know or won't answer has jumped, to 12% from 5% when the question was asked in February and last December.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
You're approaching it rationally. The truth about murders and deaths caused by guns is that you're far more likely to be killed by someone you know than by a random mugger. Having unsecured guns around your house, particularly if you have a lot of male friends over to enjoy a drink or two, is far more dangerous than going out to Kroger's unarmed.aTm wrote:As a single male with nobody to protect but myself, I'd much rather take the miniscule chance that someone would come and kill me or rob me or whatever than the chance that I'd accidentally shoot someone I knew who was acting stupid or trying to prank me or something.

Something else to consider is that 90% of all murders committed by women are against someone they know. And nearly half of all homicides are immediately preceded by an argument of some kind; more than half involve alcohol or drugs.

Just like the unemployment numbers are now (and have been) unbelievable, so too anything you hear about who's insured, who's paid, etc etc......it's all about getting elected.
