Your reading comprehension is surprisingly poor. I have to keep reminding myself that it is not my job to educate and correct you.

I'll let special teams take care of that...

Logan Thomas had struggled all year before tonight. He was beaten up after the Marshall game, and didn't practice in the short week before tonight's game. Tonight, he went 19-25 passing, passed for a touchdown, ran for another, committed zero turnovers, and completed his first nine attempts(the first incompletion was a smart throwaway). If that's how Logan is going to play after not practicing, he should not practice from now on. This was the first surprising result of this VT season, and it was a most welcome surprise. That was probably the best all-around effort, even with the missed field goal and the lackluster running game, VT's put on the field in two years.

good showing by VT after the 3 OT barfer against Marshall - question is, does VT have the depth to get thru a 12 game season - looked like a minimum of substitution on both sides of the ball through out the game

Would love to see VaTech have a great year. VaTech fans are great fans, and Beamer and Foster are two of my favorite coaches.

I agree about the fans. I had a blast at the Gator Bowl and there were some HPOA from VT at the riverwalk several years ago.

VT doesn't have proven depth anywhere except on the defensive line, and even there, the backup defensive tackles are Corey Marshall and two freshmen. In some places, depth is almost non-existent-- VT had another TE leave the program this week(Duan Perez-Means is out for personal reasons-- it's unclear if he'll be back), so true freshman Kalvin Cline, who played one year of high school football and was supposed to redshirt, is now the only healthy TE who has ever caught a pass on the roster.

On the offensive side of the ball, VT is just starting to climb out of a hole the program spent years digging for itself. Offensive line recruiting has always been deficient-- VT managed to find enough talent at RB, WR, and QB to mask some of the problems, but last year demonstrated that you can only hide structural flaws for so long. Nobody expects this VT team to contend seriously for the conference title this year. VT is nowhere near Clemson and Florida State in terms of overall talent-- the Alabama game demonstrated that clearly-- and is almost certainly behind Miami as well. Every game against quality opposition is going to be a slog for this team, and if they make it back to a bowl game, that's about all anybody could reasonably ask of them right now.

Jason,

Congratulations on your pending win.

It's October. That means it's time for playoff baseball and basketball practice.

This Virginia Tech team can't look past any FBS team, and probably couldn't beat some FCS opponents with subpar effort. Logan Thomas is hurt(abdominal strain plus a sprained foot suffered last week). Trey Edmunds and J.C. Coleman are recovering from injuries-- VT tailbacks managed -3 rushing yards against Georgia Tech. VT's most consistent receiver, Willie Byrn, sprained an MCL against GT and may not play against UNC. The VT offense vs. UNC's defense figures to be the classic case of the resistible force meeting the moveable object.

You will have the dumbass portion of your fanbase thinking that your offensive problems are fixed after Saturday. Our defense is that fucking bad.

North Carolina's defense was terrible in the first half, Virginia Tech's offense was dreadful in the third quarter, and the teams took pity on each other and handed each other touchdowns in the fourth quarter to wrap things up. This is a result you almost want to throw out, since Bryn Renner didn't play, but VT will take any gift it can get right now, and UNC was certainly in a giving mood today-- they committed about 90 yards worth of penalties(including a big block in the back that negated a punt return TD) and turned the ball over three times. VT couldn't run the ball worth a damn, again, but got enough from the passing game and avoided the big mistake.

I think UNC has something, though, with Marquise Williams. I can see why the VT staff was so disappointed they didn't get him.

With their close loss to UGA and their status in SEC!SEC!SEC!SEC!, the Vols will sneak in at 24 or 25 and keep the Hokies out of the poll.

With Maryland going down and Ole Miss in trouble, I suppose it's looking likely that VT would sneak in to the top 25 next week, but it seems premature to me. This is still a very limited offensive team-- the passing game has improved significantly since the opener(it couldn't have gotten much worse, but still...), but the running game seems trapped in quicksand, for the most part. I'll feel better about them if they can manage to beat Pittsburgh next week, but that will be tough. Pittsburgh has bedeviled VT recently, the Panthers have won three straight since getting wiped out by FSU, and they'll be coming into Blacksburg off a bye.

Solid defense and Logan gets better every game.

UNC's lack of discipline is an indictment of this staff. They are in over their heads.
