I'm going to go with this is Roy's last year.

I'm hearing Dickie V and Saunders were propping him up trying to salvage his reputation on the air tonight.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

you have to admit, that was a pretty impressive win for Duke tonight - Wisconsin was up for that game and they walked out on a road win with a 10 point victory over what some have argued is the best team in the nation.

Once again UNC got the preseason hype based on nothing but hope that some decent players magically turned into lottery picks over the summer, while Dook is quietly light years better than us, including yet another freshmen who is equal or better than his massive hype (as opposed to UNC freshmen who never seem to be, at least in the last half dozen or so years). We are still a one man team, and while I like Paige and thinks he's a good player, I can name 5 UNC pg's off the top of my head that I would take over him. Last play of the game last night, every player on Iowa's team KNEW that Paige was the only person who was going to take the shot. You can't win many games like that when the entire opposing team KNOWS that there is no way in hell ANYBODY except one guy on your team is going to do anything. Now if that guy is Michael Jordan, sure, I like my chances. Anybody else, no. And Paige ain't Michael Jordan. Oh well, maybe these guys will hang around yet another year, I can't imagine another season of playing together wouldn't make them better and we might have a shot at the FF next year if they all stay and improve. Justin Jackson is the best player on the team, he's got potential to be really good, kinda reminds me of Tayshun Prince, actually. Paige is above average, but when he's your only outside shooter (although I think Jackson could develop) and he has an off night, we're toast. Hell, even when he has an on night, he's the only guy that can shoot the basketball. Meeks is pretty good, Brice is pretty good, Hicks has improved (wow), I guess he's OK. That about sums up UNC this year (and seems like too many years since 2009): Pretty good. We're going to be Indiana soon, if we're not already, great history, great name, living on past glory, and b/c of that, maybe have a top 5 team every 5 or 6 years based on having some seasoned veterans and get lucky to snag a great freshman, but still flame out early. Great...

Suck it ACC. Big 10-4 basketball is WAR!!!
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Someone said this on the UNC board and I do think its appropriate

Basically they said UNC is now like Tubby Smith around 2002 where he does enough to keep them relevant to but is clearly not in the running with the big dogs.

Around 2002 or so is when it was clear that UK wasn't going to compete with Duke, UNC, Michigan St and yes, Memphis in recruiting and consequently national championships but people still held on to the idea that we were UK and if a good recruit put on the UK uniform he was transformed into Antoine Walker.

It was maddening because Tubby was a good guy, a good coach but he wasn't going to get it done and UK wasn't going to get rid of him. At this point I'd say the pendulum is 70/30 in favor of Roy as coach. Yes, people are upset but Roy has led you to the promised land more than once so those who are detractors now aren't thought of nutjobs but they are still thought of as knee jerk fans.

It will take a few more losses like Iowa unfortunately for the hard core Roy ass kissers to turn, and in between now and then its going to be ugly for Carolina fans on the message boards and what not.

One thing that is expediting this is fans are taking their anger in Roy's inability to recruit (or his commitment to the One and Done which used to be Carolina's fans reason to show they were superior until one and dones started kicking their ass), his questionable end game coaching (3 time outs at the end of the game?) and his lack of empathy for the situation Carolina is in and putting it on the scandal. Its a convenient out at this point to say "well, maybe Roy did know about the cheating" because you know its a way out for him and to bring in someone new whereas if Carolina was winning, the fans would be standing behind Roy unanimously in their support of him being a bastion of integrity.

Either way, I think its too soon to say that Carolina is slowly turning into Indiana - Indiana has made some really dumb decisions - they are the Notre Dame of basketball circa Charlie Weis.

All Carolina has to do is survive the impending NCAA sanctions which will remove Roy anyways and then bring in a guy like Brad Stevens - no more Carolina family bullshit and tell him to compete with UK and Duke.

Yeah, but the difference b/w Roy and Tubby is that Roy is a proven veteran coach who saved the program from Doh and has, as you said, been to the promised land multiple times (with Kansas and UNC), while Tubby was following Pintino. Basically an exact reversal of scenarios. It's going to be much harder to get rid of Roy, if he is even the problem here. I mean, yeah, you've got to put a bunch of it on the coach, but it just seems like things have gotten stale in Chapel Hill. A lot of that has to to with UK's recent resurgence and it's basically a complete reversal of fortune from when Roy first got there when we were tearing it up and ya'll were struggling. And of course, if Kendall Marshall hadn't gotten hurt and we had beating you guys for the championship in 2012 (not saying we would have even if Marshall wasn't hurt, but if), we probably wouldn't be feeling this way now, but at the same time, we'd probably would've had different teams that past 3 years than we have had. Fuck it, I don't know what's going on or why. This whole academic bullshit hasn't helped, either, but I don't really put it down as that. I don't know what it is, things just seem stale...

things change - I think its as simple as that.

Tayshaun Prince and Keith Bogans came to UK under the idea they were going to play a Pitino style of play as a continuation under Tubby.

Tubby made the decision to push UK toward a grind it out style of defense and ultimately UK took a hit.

Roy has pushed back on dealing with the one and done - remember - he said he didn't want anything to do with John Wall (more likely it was because he had a falling out with Wall's AAU handler) but that started a rep for Roy that he wouldn't deal with one and dones, then you take Barnes(? I can't really remember if that who it was or not), who should have been a one and done, and a handful of guys that came back and now UNC has the rep of holding guys back from the NBA while UK (and now Duke to some extent) will push you to it, even at the expense of the program.

Combine that with every coach out there telling a recruit UNC will be on probation and its goign to be a tough run for UNC for awhile.

I don't think Roy has any major recruits on the horizon at this point. 8 years ago Roy could show up, flash the Carolina Blue and it would get him in the door, now the recruit is asking him how many millions is going to Carolina going to get him and Roy doesn't have an answer.

Did K bring his own refs to that game last nigth? I"m guessing that he did. In fact, I'll bet that he insisted upon this as a sticking point for ever agreeing to this "challenge" game. And I'll bet that this "impressive" win over overrated Wisconsin on Dec 4th will bear Duke *nothing* after a run through the weaker-than-usual ACC this year.

I feel like a Shitheel.

A friend of mine has a secretary who loves Matthew McConaughey....and I do a passable impression of him. Anyway, it was her birthday and my friend asks me to call her as McConaughey and wish her happy birthday. I do, and she buys it and is screaming with joy. Until she finds out it's me...and starts sobbing, and saying things like, "I'm sorry, I should've known, I can't believe how stupid I am." all the time weeping and sobbing and whatever...

It really kinda sucked the air outta the room and stressed me out that I had been a part of what turned out to be such a gut punch on the poor lady's birthday.
