Hillary, by staying upright, and not coughing, is winning.

Not surprisingly, MSNBC and CNN saying Hillary pitched a shut out. I didn't see that...

He knocked her around early. She regrouped and won the later rounds by a smaller margin.

Hillary won the debate, but someone in her camp needs to tell her not to smile. She looks like one of those clown guys going around scaring children.

I thought early onTrump made his case effectively that Hillary has been doing this for 30 years so why should anybody expect her to be able to fix anything now. I don't necessarily agree with that, but that's been Trump's outsider angle for awhile and that whole general accusation resonates loudly with a good chunk of the electorate. Of course that tack has been taken by many would-be politicians like Perot (and even some actual politicians who want to carry the banner of "outsider", like Bernie Sanders) but it's a big part of Trump's popularity and I thought he hit the right note on that point. Soon after and related to that, I thought he scored points when he said she was going to ruin business by adding more regulations, a common enough argument against dems, but again I just thought he was very effective there.

But all of that was early, and as the debate wore on, he started melting like the wicked witch, wouldn't shut up and just became a drone. Hillary tried to make some quips about it, but there weren't really any zingers from her although she had several opportunities. Trump basically shot himself in the foot (shocking), but I didn't see that as Hillary pitching a shut out as was said by some commentators. I'd call that more of a second half comeback for a narrow victory, much of it coming from the opponent's ineptness. Worst part was when Trump started going on about Hillary's stamina, when by that point it was evident that he didn't even have the stamina to make it thru a 90 minute debate without floundering and blustering and reverting to chatroom insults and blather. Certainly there is a decent segment of his supporters for whom that is exactly what they want, but I don't think that played well to anybody who wasn't already all in with Trump...

I'm not sure I'm going to watch any of the debates. I won't learn anything from them and whatever time I have invested in watching and post analysis isn't going to change mine or anyone elses opinion.

facebook this morning was a train wreck. Some people's opinions I value (strangely mostly everyone here) but facebook is just for seeing who got fat after high school and cat photos. I don't give a fuck what those people think.

I won't watch any of them. I just don't care. They are both going to be failures

Trump may not do any more of them, it seems. At least that's what some people are fearing/expecting.

I agree largely with hedge's assessment of the night. I thought Trump got his 4 or 5 things out early (she's a career pol, she has an email scandal, the Fed is horrible, Hillary's trade policy will hurt us, etc.). I thought he went after Obama too much and not her, but that feeds his base too. At the end of the day, he was not well prepared or rested. He did oddly display some magnanimous moments by pointing out where he agreed with her (the NRA is not going to like that No Fly List concurrence). If his goal was to win over new/undecided voters, though, he did a horrible job.

Bernie needs to stop standing so close to the TV. I keep telling my kids that.
