Investments by governments to private firms are not only useful but also can be critically important to our welfare. New industries often need seed capital that is not forthcoming from financial markets, especially when large infrastructure needs mean steep start-up costs. Think of the Internet, which began as a government wholly-funded defense project.

Because firms can't recoup all the benefits of their R&D investments, they tend to under-invest. If government took a pure hands-off approach, there would be less money put into medicine, technology, aviation and most other cutting-edge fields
.

Where would Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, etc. be without government subsidies?

Edison, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs created the electrical, aviation, automobile, and computer industries without government help.

Washington mostly invents Solyndra's and Obamacare websites.

I favor abolishing ethanol subsidies because I don't personally benefit from them.

Now if you start messing with Conservation Use and Conservation Reserve Program subsidies, I'll get riled up. Those two particular subsidies are critical to the American way of life.

I'm sure you are relieved.

Natural gas is just the latest permutation of how phoney and banal the left is....just as global warming needed editing into climate change, now that natural gas is cheap and plentiful, it must be demonized just a few years after it was praised as a cleaner alternative to coal.......karma.

Old, old tradition. Somewhat surprised they can pull it off now w/the plethora of cameras around.

I hope it wasn't stolen by Bama fans. They'd make the T radioactive before they returned it. Fortunately none of them are that smart.

You talking about how smart others are is quite amusing. First chuckle of the morning. Thanks.

A Tech grad friend says they're now arresting T stealing pranksters. Sounds like they're losing their sense of humor.

How wonderful of our first lady to volunteer her time to travel on our dime. Hard working, low paid subjects all over the country are grateful.

She's shaking hands with our national landlords, not her subjects.

A writer for NRO is finally passing out red pills. The manosphere is going mainstream.

Ha ha liberals and feminists and white knoghts, fuck all of you.
Feminism: Eve eats ALL the apples, gives God the middle finder when He confronts her, and has the serpent serve Adam with an injunction ordering him to both stay away from her AND to provide her food and shelter because he dragged her out of the Garden.

So you beat up oprama for the occasional golf trip, knowing full well that dubya broke all the vacation records for an incumbent prez (and will surely not be bested in our lifetime).

Got any idea how much Laura Bush burdened over-taxed Americans during her two terms as a jet-setter?
