War Pearl Eagle!
Our bball program has been so bad for so long that Pearl can't make us any worse.

If they lead us to BCSCG's and NC's, I'm fine with that. Richt leads them astray and we show them a better way.

We get Pearl. Bama gets Battle and Kiffin.
Tennessee is slowly taking over Alabama sports.

Pearl will be good once he is off his NCAA show cause.
Battle is a quality AD. Big upgrade over Mal. Kiffin will be a fine assistant.

The NonConference
San Jose State (6-6)
@ Kansas State (8-5)
Louisiana Tech (4-8)
Samford (8-5)
I believe the game against Kansas State is Auburn's first trip outside the South since playing West Virginia about 4-5 years ago. San Jose State and Louisiana Tech are occasionally respectable.

Two bits of very good news.
1. The annual Auburn-Georgia game is safe under the new SEC scheduling format. It is disturbing that anybody would even consider ending the South's oldest rivalry. It has always been a fun series. Historically, it has always had the intensity of the Iron Bowl with little of the hate. And recently, when we we win it, the reaction of UGA fans has been priceless. They are getting so desperate for some championship - ANY championship - that they are getting whiny like they never used to. They're still complaining about Nick Fairley's treatment of Andrew Murray, and that was 4 years ago.
2. We are going back to splitting home fields in the Bama and Georgia games. It played to our advantage last year with back-to-back miracle plays at Jordan Hare. I doubt either would have happened in Athens or Tuscaloosa. But it will hurt us in 2014. Winning back to back on the road against our two best opponents is a lot to ask of an Auburn team, and now we won't have to.

Those are border states. They don't count.

Looked it up. UNC & UVA first played in 1892 and have played 118 times, annually since 1919.
UGA & Auburn first played 1892 and have played 117 times, annually since 1944.
Looks like it's kind of a draw.

Virginia produced every Confederate soldier worth a damn. Alabama produced mainly cannon fodder.
