Crean's pre-season first radio show - the Hoosiers haven't played a game yet

---------------

Then, the craziness really began as the phone lines were opened. After a show of support from the first caller, the next caller was from Tell City and had worked under athletic trainer Tim Garl. He asked Crean, "How do you respond to fans like me, that place blame on your shoulders?" (UPDATE: this was a legitimate caller, unlike the ones that followed.) Crean responded that his shoulders were fine, and that the caller was more than welcome to put the blame on him. Another called claimed to be from Park City, Utah, then asked a question different than what the screeners had anticipated. Host Don Fischer reprimanded the caller for lying about this, then went onto the next one. The next caller was even more cynical, and asked, "Why does Tom Crean still deserve his job?" The live audience at the show booed him, and Fischer admonished the caller and cut off questions shortly afterwards.

Tubby never had a call in show like that but he saw the writing on the wall after an end of season loss and refused to take callers. Instead he had a "greatest hits" show where past players and contacts called in to talk about glory days.

It pissed fans off because they were lining up to ask him why he deserved to be coach another year.

One thing I will say about Tubby in light of UNC's issues. Tubby was on record for saying that he was never going to cut corners, even at the expense of wins because he wasn't going to be the guy that put us back on probation.

Tubby laid the groundwork for how UK addresses its players today and it may have been his best contribution to the program overall.

Crean is just trying to keep his head above water now. I've never though Crean was "the guy". He was "the guy" for what where we were and has done a adequate job of getting the program back from the gutter.

However I feel he stays there until either A. Brad Stevens is fired in Boston or B. Brad Stevens is for sure not going anywhere and then they will look and try to get someone like Shocka Smart and such.

Also, this all depends on the AD also. He hired Crean, football coach, and couple of others that are on his watch.

As much as I love football, there is no reason to fire the head coach every 4 years and recycle. They have to understand that 4 years isn't something you can build. It takes more like a decade of consistent winning and having a foundation to rely on.

UK fans are asking Cal to pass on this kid, UNC fans are hoping Roy lands him. IMO, this is the last kid UNC needs to be recruiting right now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 2015 big man is originally from Haiti and played at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis last season, and after the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association ruled him ineligible over the summer, he transferred to the Lausanne Collegiate School, also in Memphis. However, because he’s still ineligible, he can’t play for Lausanne, so he enrolled in the “Reach Your Dream” Prep School, which, contrary to its odd name, isn’t a training ground for Christian boy bands, but instead a sketchy prep school founded by Skal’s guardian just for him.

The story gets even weirder with the news that Reach Your Dream Prep’s game against the Memphis Mustangs tonight has been rescheduled because Skal is sick. 92.9 in Memphis is reporting that Labissiere’s guardian Gerald Hamilton called the opposing coach last night to tell him Skal has an upper respiratory illness and wouldn’t be able to play, and the opposing coach agreed to postpone the game until Skal’s better. Who does that? Even more, Hamilton told the opposing coach that his team was having trouble finding gym time because they have no home gym, and but couldn’t play in the Mustangs’ gym because it wouldn’t be able to accommodate the large crowd Skal would draw. The whole thing just sounds like an NCAA nightmare waiting to happen.

Meanwhile, Labissiere is down to North Carolina, Memphis, Kentucky, Baylor, Georgetown, and Tennessee, and hasn’t ruled out announcing during the early signing period, which starts next week. He’s considered the 2nd best center in the 2015 class and Memphis and Kentucky are the favorites. The real question is, is he worth the drama?

after reading up on its not quite as bad as it reads

the kid was accepted to a prestigious school in Memphis which he attends academically but because of transfer rules he cannot play this season, so his handler, a notorious scumbag from most accounts set up this faux school for him to just play ball at.

Still, its the kind of thing the NCAA loves to fuck with people about.

Gerald Hamilton is nuttier than a fruitcake.

Skal never should have left ECS.

"If Josh Pastner wants that headache, he'll be at Memphis..."

Are you more confident in this call than your one about Cal not leaving Memphis for UK? I hope so...
