so Rex Chapman has a gambling problem - owes over $13K in gambling debts now and in his divorce proceedings wife says he gambled all their money away.

flashback to night of the championship game when Chapman tweets out that Calipari is going to the Lakers just prior to the game and UConn wins the game over the Cats

hmmmmmmmmmmm

He was hoping to win it all back?

$13K? I wouldn't have thought that was much for a guy like Chapman...

that was at the time of his divorce so he went from +22,000,000 to -13,000

I'm guessing somewhere around +10,000 she thought "this guy has a problem!"

I think its a reasonable jump to think he put money on UConn and tweeted out that piece of information to disrupt the team.

If you've ever known any gamblers who hit rock bottom, I wouldn't put anything past them. Regardless of how far-fetched the logic is.

you seriously don't think its reasonable if he owed money and blew thru $22m that he'd tweet out something to help his odds in putting money on UConn?

Just prior to a UK game in the tourney, PItino announced he was returning to Kentucky to coach Louisville and UK lost that game. After the game the players and Tubby admitted that the news distracted them - so there is a precedent for this sort of thing, especially given that there was no one in the Lakers organization or UK side that validated Rex's tweet.

His gambling habits had him at the point he was stealing laptops from an apple store, but betting on UConn to win and doing whatever he could to ensure it a stretch? I personally don't think so.

I find it funny that a Rex Chapman tweet was able to affect the team so much. Thank god no one tweeted anything about their moms!! They could have got blown out by 30+

sure it seems minor but that isn't the point - what it did to UK isn't the issue, its very possible it had no effect or they didn't even see it, what motivated Rex to do it is the issue.

I think it's plausible that he had disrupting the team in. I know one gambler who will eat a whole pizza at halftime to ensure that his bet covers.

So, while he may have had that intention, I don't believe it would affect the team's play. Kinda like eating the pizza.
