Isn't his mistress, the one he was talking to, black? Besides, when you're 74 with liver spots and rich, you have to assume that your young girlfriend is recording you. She isn't with you because of your physique or how much you have in common, anyway.

Speaking of Michael Richards, my favorite observation was from a comedian who said "Michael Richards was not yelling at any 'niggers.' If he was, Michael Richards would not have made it through the video."
Which reflects most poorly on the person, in your opinion? Which do you think people should be most upset about?

It's obvious that the circumstances and fame of the individuals, etc is going to drive media coverage and to some extent the PR affect on the organizations and people involved, so I don't care too much about that, more wanted your opinion on the actual act that starts it off rather than the aftermath.

I think Richards is a comic and Sterling is a billionaire who owns a business that is 80% black. Because of that, Sterling will be judged more harshly.

So, Michael Richards, Paula Deen, and Donald Sterling walk into a bar....

I don't feel sorry for the players. They knew he was a racist, but, hey, no big deal until the public demanded they do something. If they are offended, don't play. If not offended, then say it's no big deal, just another typical 74 year old white dude.

Doesn't make any sense. Rape, if proven, you go to jail. Shooting someone, even yourself, went to jail. Drugs, suspended from the league. Murder Dogs, went to jail.

If that's no problem to you, then what is a problem

The issue is not about players and their own legal problems (the same way Jim Irsay's drug and driving issue was not a big news story after about a day). Race is a different ball game...and the guy has a large history with this stuff. It's just now large enough to get traction in the papers because it involves sex and race (and the Clippers now have a team that matters, thanks to a dickish move by David Stern on the way out the door). It wasn't sexy when it was just Sterling's housing discrimination and his team played like ass.

Yes, he is a racist and there probably are more in the league ownership ranks. Still, there are consequences for discourse. Those consequences can be felt in the ticket sales, the free agent acquisitions or the sponsorships. His franchise is toast as long as he is owner...even if his sin was simply being a vocal racist, instead of a racist who can hold his tongue at the right times.
Sponsors are already pulling out. The owner of the Rockets said that he shouldn't be an owner (and that this wasn't a surprise to him). It's all about the green.

That' would breech their contract. The superstars shouldn't play. Let all the back-ups and slubs play.

That's true about virtually every issue in this country. Why should this one be different?

I don't expect it to be? I'm just asking what's worse if you take fame and circumstance out of it.

stick a tape recorder into michelle and barrack house during the early years and listen to the conversations that went on in their house. hell he attended a church who's pastor made a living berating whitie

the guy was definitely wrong for what he said --but most of those chasing him publicly have been just as guilty of saying racially inflammatory comments sometime in their life.

barkley/al sharpton/shaquille/jackson----barkley has said he hates white people. shaquille about yao ming-, ‘Ching-chong-yang-wah-ah-so.” sounds racial to me
jessee jackson said obama was talking down to black people telling n------ how to behave. nothing racially offensive about that.

which is more offensive our president attending a racially charged church for years whom we elect president or an old geezer telling his girlfriend not to go to nba games with black guys now going to get run out of town on a rail as the most despised man in america. every tv program is out to lynch this guy whom the nccpa was going to honor.

we've all said some rotten things about others in the privacy of our home--pretty sad we can forgive obama, michael vick, jesses jackson, and on and on but this guy is the most hated man in america

double standard

He's got the right to say whatever. Sponsors have the right to drop the Clippers and ticket buyers have the right to stop buying, too. Just like people have the right to not support Shaquille, Obama, Barkley or whomever in anyway they see fit.

always

but what I can't figure out - if this guy is a known racist, why the hell was he about to get man of the year or some bullshit from the NAACP?

Seems like they have a few forms or some shit to fill out for an award like that would ask "do you like black people?"

what is kinda funny is if he was recorded saying "don't bring no muslim to the game" people be like 'uh, yea I can see that"

It's just a fact. If Hitler stroked a big enough check to American Heart, we'd send him our preferred donor package. If he donated a crazy high amount, he could get the name of the left ventricle changed to Blondi if he wanted.
