On a related note, people who think the bike is the easiest part of these things (and that seems to be everyone I talk to who hasn't done one) are out of their minds. I think I had convinced myself that the bike would be relatively easy so I underprepared and got murdered out there.

I jog 1 to 2 miles every morning and golf every evening, and consider myself "in good shape."

I cannot imagine swimming for more than 2 miles, biking for more than 100 miles and running a marathon all in one day - and living to tell about it.

Are you ever going to do the Hawaii event?

I've entered the lottery a couple times and probably will enter every year so maybe one year I'll get picked. I know I'll never qualify and I seriously doubt I'll ever get in via the legacy program since I can't see myself doing 10 more of these after this one. So, odds are very low that I'll do Kona but I'd certainly like the chance.

I know the swimming wipes out alot of people. Back in college I worked at a health club and I'd help guys train for it. We'd be out in boats on the lake making sure no one drowned during the 1/2 the club sponsored.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

You probably have already checked out the golf course at the resort with the floating green where you have to take a boat out to get to it. Boat rides on the lake are pretty cool at night. Drinking and dancing are usually included. There is a choice of casinos around since Indian reservations are prevalent in Eastern Washington. That's where I spent some time. I'm guessing there is some cool hiking, but that is not my area of entertainment.
Sounds like a retirement complex.

Half IM - 1.2 mile swim or a sprint which is probably an 800 meter swim? Either way, the swim should be, by far, the easiest part of the race. People do get freaked out but, from a fitness point of view, the swim is nothing. As long as you have some decent technique and put in a little time, it's a piece of cake. But, there is something about being in the open water with a lot of people that is a problem for some folks.

Cool. I should be in town. 18th or 20th is best. Just let me know...& yes, I'm buying.

the bike ride is tough because it's the longest. but yeah, riding a bike will burn your legs up. better to not stop pedaling either because starting back up makes it even worse

1983 recorded the most people to summit Everest in one day with a total of 8. That record stood for nearly a decade. Thanks to advances in technology, Sherpas that have worked to improve the trail and the popularity of the activity, last year 234 people did it.

What was once thought impossible is now almost routine

Jesus, I am winded just reading the stuff Cletus was posting about.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Bklyn,

Excellent. I was kidding about you buying, of course. I am thinking of wearing overalls, though. I did that once when visiting the Manhattan Chess Club. Good times.

I've been thru there. Very nice country. City sits on a huge lake and there are mountains all around, so plenty of opportunities for hiking or water sports. There are tons of hot springs in Idaho as well, more than any other state and possibly more than all other states combined. Not sure why. The only Idaho hot springs I am familiar with are on the western side of the panhandle, so that's probably too far to drive, but you can check with google and see if there are any closer to Coeur d'Alene. I would be surprised if there aren't a few...

Just read the rest of your post. Doubt you will be wanting to do any hiking or swimming after doing an Ironman, but a soak in a hot spring might be the ticket...

Time Warner Cable is a joke. I have two houses I pay cable & internet for. Mine & my moms. So I go online because my mom keeps calling me every morning asking what channel tennis is on (Parkinsons, I could hang a poster next to the TV saying TENNIS IS ON 1302!!") and she'd still call at 5 am during the French Open. Online is not letting me in. Granted I haven't used it for a few years because I haven't needed to but my email hasn't changed since forever and I use the same 2 passwords for most everything. SO they lock me out after a few attempts. Pick up the phone & call which is always a losing nightmare. Finally get a guy named Deepack who basically asks for my birth certificate & a vile of blood before he can change it. At the end he asked if there was anything else he could do for me & I said, "Yeah, ya wanna come over & cut my grass?"

Fucker hung up on me. Now I gotta figure out how to add the Tennis channel to moms house.

That might just work. She's probably already thought of that though.
