Perry has a new issue to diffuse

"For the uninitiated, hunting and fishing camps are like college frat houses, with lots of liquor and bawdy talk, a place where men of all ages and races go and get in touch with their inner caveman.

Perry’s camp was apparently called Niggerhead, and he paraded family and friends through there regularly over the years. The governor rightly says the word has no place in current society and that it should not have been there for all to see. But it’s unclear what, if anything, he did about it.....
"

Couple of things

1. The family didn't name it this, they either leased or bought a camp with that existing name.

2. Perry claims the rock with the camp name was painted over, then turned over, however people dispute the timeline of when these actions happened

Man, I'd hate to have the press dig around in my history if I ever ran for anything- this place would sink me in a heart beat, that said, even if I never believed I'd enter into the public domain in some form, I would have immediately remove that name from the camp just because I know better, and the 1980's people were enlightened enough to realize that as well.

1. Perry is an idiot. So, he will have myriad things that can sink his presidency chances. This won't be a major one...but his chances are diminishing by the day.

2. I could never run for office...but my issues aren't posting here (or WC...as my "government name" is rarely used...let alone known). My issues will be of the Clooney nature. Maybe in my 60s, after I have a few decades of marriage under my belt, could I think about public office. Still, I love politics, but I don't have any interest in running for anything. I do think I could help craft a winning campaign, though.

When I was younger, I'd really thought I would end up in politics. But as my political leanings matured, I realized that I have no natural constituency to run to.

I held office for a while. City council in a town with a population of 10k. I hated it. I was forced to either lie or not answer questions on many personal issues during the campaign. For example, being an atheist doesn't play well in the South.

As president, the Right would hate me (pro choice, pro gay rights, pro marijuana) and the Left would hate me (pro 2nd A, pro keeping corporate taxes low, pro reducing public assistance) and the older adults would hate me (pro moving SS age to 72). I would be assassinated.

The thing that surprised me the most was the number of people who expected a quid pro quo thingy.

"Get the road re-paved in front of my church and I can guarantee you the congregation's vote."

"See if you can get this citation fixed and I'll make a nice donation to your campaign."

"If we get that city contract, we may need to discuss the work to be done at the corporate condo in Honolulu (wink)."

Etc, etc, etc.

Dirty, dirty business.

One thing I noticed, unlike Vietnam, the Iraq/Afghan Wars have mostly been young White kid wars. Latinos and AfAms are there, obviously, but the demographics of those seeing combat duty have flipped over from the numbers 45 years ago. I guess that's a result of these wars being non-draft wars.

Perry's also got those demon-hunting evangelical loons in his inner circle, too.
