From POLITICO about GOP senators confronting Ted Cruz at a luncheon yesterday about his role in the government shutdown:

"It was evident to everyone in the room that Cruz doesn't have a strategy-- he never had a strategy, and could never answer a question about what the end-game was," said one senator who attended the meeting. "I just wish the 35 House members that have bought the snake oil that was sold could witness what was witnessed today at lunch." Another quote: "He kept trying to change the subject because he never could answer the question," the senator said. "It's pretty evident it's never been about a strategy -- it's been about him. That's unfortunate. I think he's done our country a major disservice. I think he's done Republicans a major disservice."

WASHINGTON-Politicians were shocked today, when they learned that one of their own didn't really have the country's best interests at heart and was mainly interested in advancing his own career.

From the NYT, no less.

Forty-nine percent of the public disapproves of Mr. Obama’s job performance, and 43 percent approves, matching his worst measures in two years, the poll shows.

Congress would kill to have oprama's numbers. 10%? I bet the Westboro Baptist Phelpians score higher than that.

Poll: Americans Reject GOP Shutdown Strategy - Yahoo News

http://news.yahoo.com/poll-americans-re ... 59818.html

The Quinnipiac University national survey found that the public is split on the Affordable Care Act, with 47 percent opposed to it and 45 percent in favor. But Americans, by a lopsided 72-22 margin, say shutting down the government is not the answer.

Would the GOP fare better refusing to raise the country's debt ceiling to stop Obamacare? Not much: Americans oppose that approach 64-27 percent.

The survey confirmed what many Republicans have worried about for weeks: Shutting down the government may harm the GOP brand with independents and damage the party's very real prospects for holding the House and retaking the Senate in the 2014 mid-term elections.

Everyone loves George Will, right? Amiright?

If the Affordable Care Act is, as conservatives believe, as unpleasant in potential effects as it is impossible to implement, conservatives should allow what Lincoln called "the silent artillary of time" to destroy it. Obama has not noticed that many objects of his rhetorical support - the ACA; scores of Democratic candidates; his gun-control agenda; his plan to attack Syria - have not become popular.

The government should not be closed; the debt ceiling will be raised. Republicans should, however, take to heart the last words of H.L. Mencken's summation of Theodore Roosevelt: "Well, one does what one can."

Poor Al Roker...he definitely had a near hard-on this morning on the Today show, but alas, another one bites the dust....

As of late afternoon Friday, Tropical Storm Karen had maximum winds of 50 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The storm was about 235 miles south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River and was moving north-northwest at 7 mph.

The storm could become a hurricane as it approaches land. A tropical storm becomes a hurricane when its winds reach 74 mph. However, according to a bulletin from the hurricane center, "it has become a little less likely that Karen will reach hurricane strength."

Where have all the hurricanes gone?

Long time passing.....
