I have to applaud the restraint of Auggie from not posting the NYT story about the fuckery of the UNC program and the grade changing/phantom class scandal. It must be as difficult as it's been for eCat to not update us on the whatever happened with freaky homegirl over Christmas story...

heh
well nothing happened. She found out her brother is addicted to heroin and is living on the streets of Cleveland, and was focused on trying to get in touch with him. Plus a common friend of theirs just found out he has some disease where he just walking and then his legs quit working. He hadn't told them yet and as he was walking up the driveway he fell twice and they laughed at him for being drunk, so that put a foul mood on the evening. She did tell my wife she wanted to come up in October but that is so far away, who knows what will happen. Going down there I could tell the vibe wasn't right. I spent the week repairing various crap that had broken since I was there last time and didn't get much chance to prime the pump so to speak.
KSR is all over the NYT article, although it doesn't really bring up anything new, I just think they wanted to keep the topic in the forefront as much as they could.
fucked up story about the brother. Kid went to Cleveland with a $120K a year job, met a girl, she gave him an STD, he freaked, and for whatever reason decided that recreational drug use and hanging out with his drug dealers was a way to deal with it (or maybe not, just hearing it second hand and admittedly the story doesn't add up). Loses his job, then his apartment, then the dealers bounce him, loses his phone and doesn't contact anyone for like 4 months only to leave word he is sleeping on couches when he can. Homeless in a city with lake effect snow is no place to be. Of course we're only 4 hours away and I got the sense they were looking at me to be the good Samaritan. I didn't say a damn word other than 'oh that is horrible'.

i would think freaky homegirl should take him in.
i would think the kid needs to get back to whatever he did to make 120k in the first place --if hes salvagable
if hes still doing heroin no family member would make a difference anyway

Does anybody have any cable TV contacts for my reality TV pitch? I think it should be called "Dr. eCat's Rehab Bootcamp"

Yeah but you would need more than him yelling at them to take a lap. That would get old quick.

that type of precipitous decline usually comes from an amphetamine, not heroin.

Yeah, look how long I soldiered on, long after Stu had crashed and burned. Hell, I'm still marching...

my salute was thinly veiled, I see. but I somehow managed to do coke in a problematic manner for nearly a decade. But then I never insisted Spiderman was scaling the wall outside the window of my 7th floor apt. or that an alien robot spider was embedded in my kitchen sink...

my car said it was 6 when I went outside this morning to clean the snow off for my wife.
I'm going to be surprised if those football games legitimately sell out - I think there is going to be some behind the scenes shenanigans (I loved typing that word just then) to sell out these games as a face saving move for the NFL.
I read -8 for the Green Bay game.
Who can sit relatively still in a stadium for 3 hours in that temperature? I would have to tape handwarmers all over my body just to go outside.
