I guess oprama is feeling froggy, considering the threatened attack got Syria to admit to possessing the chem weapons, got them signing the all-nation's treaty not to use them, and had them allowing inspectors to make a show of moving them out. All that and we never fired a shot. Is that "infamously wavering"? Hell - I'd love to know what that author's own blueprint for handling this situation was.

Condolences to the victims at the DC Navy Yard. There's not much more I can think of to add.

The Last time he used a gun in anger was because he was 'dissed'.

By all accounts he was a nice guy though. A friend said he was obsessed with violent video games.

Doesn't matter. There's no solution to these tragedies.

Who cares if that Indian chick won the contest. About damn time, hell, they were the first people on this land, surprised it took that long for them to win.

Aaron Alexis, the ex-Navy reservist who killed 12 in a massacre at Washington Navy Yard, had been treated for mental issues including paranoia, a sleep disorder and had been hearing voices, officials tell The Associated Press.
The most common denominator of all these shootings seems to be mental illness of the shooter. If gun control advocates want to enact measures that are actually effective in limiting mass shootings, then tackling that connection with mental illness and gun ownership is where they should focus.

You're right, if someone had tackled that guy before he started shooting, none of this would've happened...

You're really going out on a limb there. Blazing away at anybody and everybody just to rack up a big body count in the minutes before they exit this world...yeah, those people aren't well adjusted.

Does it have to be JUST the gun grabbers that do the tackling? Maybe if a mass shooter turns out to actually BE a gun control advocate, then the onus should absolutely shift their way. Until then, it appears the gun nuts need to do a better job of policing their own. Sorry, make that gun enthusiasts. Sounds awkward asking for nuts to crack down on psychos..

But it's all just bullshit, really. Kooks, felons, blind people (!) - they're going to get firearmed to the teeth if that's their desire - and that's all there really is to it. You know it, I know it, and so does everybody else.

That's just fly-over country....check out the apparatchiks:

The nation’s capital is a great place to be these days.

The economy may still be struggling to break out in much of the country, but not in Washington, where local federal spending has doubled over the past decade, boosting federal agency employment and contract spending. Lawyers and lobbyists have rolled in from anywhere and everywhere. The local unemployment rate of 5.5% lies well below the national average. It’s also where median household income levels are the highest in the country.

For the second consecutive year, Loudoun County, Va., a 520-square-mile suburban mass that sits 46 miles from the White House, weighs in as America’s richest county.

FBI assistant director Victoria Parlave stated at a press conference on Tuesday that authorities, “do not have any information at this time that [Alexis] had an AR-15 in his possession.”

Despite there being no evidence that an AR-15 was used, the New York Daily News ran a front page headline yesterday morning entitled, “Same Gun Different Slay,” next to a picture of an assault rifle.

Hours after the FBI stated that no AR-15 had been used, MSNBC’s Alex Wagner, who previously blamed the Boston bombings on Alex Jones, continued to use an animated graphic depicting Alexis carrying an assault rifle during the massacre.

Anti-second amendment crusader Piers Morgan also erroneously blamed the shooting on “a man with a legally purchased AR-15, who just committed the same kind of atrocity as we saw at Sandy Hook, and Aurora,” during his CNN show on Monday.

CNN’s live news coverage also reported that Alexis had “recently purchased (an) AR-15 shotgun,” when in fact that purchase had been denied.

Both the New York Times and the Washington Post also falsely reported that an AR-15 had been found on Alexis after the massacre.

DC gun grabbers Dianne Feinstein and Dick Durbin also regurgitated the false claim that Alexis used an AR-15 during the rampage.

The US press has once again behaved like state media in the aftermath of the Navy Yard shooting by pursuing the assault rifle angle – despite the fact that it was patently false – in order to bolster the White House’s gun control agenda.

In doing so, they have concurrently buried an integral aspect of mass shootings that needs to highlighted as part of a national conversation – the clear connection between violent outbursts and SSRI drugs.

Yes, let's not lose sight of the real tragedy - the NY Daily News/Piers Morgan campaign to discredit the AR-15.

Most of the variation in the poverty rate has been cyclical: it goes up in recessions and down during booms. During the early 1980s recession, the rate spiked, only to fall again when the labor market recovered later in the decade. The same thing with the early 1990s recessions and late '90s boom. And the current recession has spurred an increase again. The most recent numbers we have are for 2010, and that year's rate - 15.1 percent - is about as high as it's gotten since the 1960s.

Notables from the Poverty Rate chart: poverty rate was at it's height during Eisenhower(R)...falling thru Kennedy(D), in a freefall during the War on Poverty of Lyndon Johnson(D)...takes a huge upward swing during Reagan(R)....next longest sustained drop in the poverty rate after Johnson was during Clinton(D)...then swings upward during the reign of dubya(R).
