IB is simply indulging his deep need for a very perverse type of pornography...

I'd like to blow a wad in his wifes face. She's probably over 200 lbs though so it would be a snack.

You write this, and you asked the moderators to ban me?

Pope says it's better to be an atheist than a bad Christian:

Preemptive note to AA: Poking fun at Alabama's fanbase and recruiting practices does not make one a bad Christian. To the contrary, it is a prerequisite for sainthood.

"Poking fun" has nothing to do with it.

Your lies, gossip, and pettiness, however, do.

Prof,

Earlier in a reply to IB, you said your church won't allow female clergy and that you supported it.

Why? Are the women unable to understand your bible or does having a penis make you more connected to god?

Serious question.

2,000 years of tradition.

Basically we don't change anything unless there is a good reason to. So far, the late 20th century invention of feminism hasn't presented a good enough reason to. That could change in the future, but it will be a distant future. We change like glaciers move. And if we do change, it won't be in order to placate angry mobs of spinsters with hairy legs who hate us. It will come from within.

Ghost, happy Shrove Tuesday. I'm the only one around here who got the pancake reference. Congratulations for making it through the -gesima's.

I would think fairness would be enough of a reason. I can't see how owning a penis makes one more able to preach. 2000 years ago women were second class citizens in many cultures. Surely, that's why they weren't allowed way back then.

Personally I prefer clergy with a Y chromosome, especially in leadership positions such as a Rector or Bishop, but I've met some XX clergy who demonstrated the qualities to effectively preach the gospel and administer sacraments. When women occupied a role in society where they were the property of men, uneducated, relegated to separate rooms of worship etc, of course they had no place at the altar. Those 'traditions' are long gone, so why is the 'tradition' of not ordaining them still around? The first people Jesus told to spread the good news that he had risen where women, apparently he didn't have a problem with giving them that responsibility. It's not so much about tradition as it is about Authority.

Interesting. Why does the Y chromosome make clergy better?

I assume you prefer things that are better.

If not, why would you prefer XY clergy?

Its against God's rules.
God wrote:But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man. She must remain quiet.
That is it. No "prophet" has gotten "revelation" from God where His rules on this matter have changed. They haven't. Women can not be clergy, end of story. Women have zero authority over men. Ladies, sit in the pews, and keep your mouth shut. God says that is beautiful to Him,

I prefer things that suit my preferences - In general I find XY clergy more suited in roles of leadership and authority same as I have no compunctions about referring to God as the Father or using pronouns he, him, his though God himself is not Male, that is a construct he made as part of the human condition. That doesn't mean there are no exceptions or that someone else's preferences have nothing to do with gender. There are plenty of XY clergy who have no business wearing a collar, and there are some XX priests/deacons that have served their congregations well.

You can't fault IB for inconsistency. He has stated that women exist to be an on-call sexual vessel when men demand it and a baby incubator so naturally they can't be ordained or utter anything of authority. She says The Lord be with you and he says Shaddup bitch and make me a sammitch and get me another beer while you're at it.
