there is some saying in the police ranks regarding armed citizens...I don't remember it exactly but it goes like this - when seconds matter, the police arrive in minutes.

Its not a slam on the police, its just saying that lives aren't save by the time the police arrive, police arrive to kill the bad guy after he's already done whatever....

that said, I can't say that i'm comfortable with the idea of teachers packing. I've known enough teachers to realize some of them are one step above hairdressers in the stable home life department.
