Total yards given up all season. Yards against. Right now, BC leads the nation at just over 300 yards (over 3 games.) If you want to pick points against, I believe BC leads the nation there (given up just 3.3 points per game all season.) Tell you what, I am going on vacation tonight. YOU pick whatever objective parameter you want for top ten defense period (anything you pick) and I will agree to it. But it must be a mathematical objective measurement. No subjective, girl-figure-skating-sports, judges ranking, bullshit. Pick something you and I can see with nothing but MATH.

I am not going to pussy out. But this must be entirely "objective."

Objectively, I just assumed you meant total yards given up all season. But you can pick anything. We'll still be top 10 in the nation on January 1. I already know what signature I want you to write.
Easy enough. The average of the top 10 respected defensive polls after the entire season is over works for me. That includes the MNC.

Enjoy West Virginia

I'll pick a stat....

Jeff Sagarin has Boston College's strength of schedule at 42.57, ranked 214th in the country (between FBS and FCS schools). There are only 128 FBS schools...

214th

I'll pick another stat...

PredictionMachine.com has BC's strength of schedule ranked 126th out of the 128 FBS teams....

3rd-to-last....

Man up with what? I will not allow anything to be subjective. No "judges." You need to pick a mathematical statistic. Total points given up all season is fine (BC's defense has given up 10.) Total yards. Total rushing yards. Total number of 1st downs. Turnovers even. I don't care. But it must be pure math, purely objective and a pure defensive measurement.

Among teams that have played all FBS teams, FSU's defense is leading the nation at 10ppg. But I'm not delusional enough to think we have a Top 10 defense, probably in the Top 30 though.

local twitterverse says Cook has a cracked rib - that combined with Pender's collapsed lung leaves true FR Patrick to play against Wake - will that make a difference?...it just gets more and more interesting

Cook practiced Friday without the no-contact jersey so if be surprised if he has a broke cage. There's no medical reason (from my understanding) that Pender couldn't play but I also have heard that once you get a collapsed lung like that, you're more likely to get another.

Last year we "struggled" to beat Wake but this one could be another BC situation where we sit on a lead due to their pathetic offense.

imo Jimbo can't have the O sit on a lead anymore - they need to learn how to put out 100% effort on every play or they will get used to relying on the D to keep the barbaric hordes from storming the gates instead of taking the initiative and keep assaulting them

Turns out Pender had an infection that required surgery - he's out "indefinitely" which very well could be the rest of the season.

Sucks for him. He's a kid who came in and struggled in the classroom, then worked his ass off to get his grades back up and ended up on the honor roll. Hopefully he can recover enough to have a solid season but it's hard to say right now. He has an incredibly quick burst.

good lord - what an abomination of a team - we don't belong in the top 20, probably not the top 25

well maybe WFU not getting called for holding for the majority of the game made things look worse but we look to be on track to lose at least 2 or 3 before the season is over

Noles -10 vs Canes. I know they have some problems themselves and I have a general rule not to bet against my rooting interest - but damn I dont see us beating them by more than a field goal (thats if we are lucky)

Agree. I think we drop this one and the fans start calling for Fisher's head.

It's possible, but the offense is going to have to play a lot better than they have all year. It's a mess right now - receivers running bad routes and dropping easy balls, an OL that's practically worthless on one side, and a QB who can't see over the line and literally looks at the wrong SIDE of the field, not just missing reads. He was actually decent against Wake and I'm hoping his struggles throwing the deep ball were only due to the harsh wind, and not a fundamental lack of arm strength. Excepting the awful officiating, the defense played OK against Wake but Miami has a lot more offensive talent.

After the Cincinnati game, the Miami AD might pull a Lane Kiffen with Al Golden if they lose this one.

The problem is that nobody knows if Miami has the cash to buy out Golden. He's signed through 2020, and there are a lot of fans who feel indebted to Golden for sticking it out during the NCAA investigation.

FSU has been stealing recruits from UM for a few years now, and if UF is on the upswing (I'm not sold yet but Muschamp probably loses the Ole Miss game) that will further reduce Miami's recruiting base. Today's recruits were infants when Miami was last relevant so playing for "the U" is no longer as strong a pull as it used to be, they'll need a good salesman to get them to sign.

Miami's recruiting rankings are overblown...to be true national championship contenders you need to sign more than 50% 5 star and 4 star recruits. Miami doesn't, but they sign enough 3 stars to keep the rankings looking better than they really are.
