Ah yes - Shelby Steele, whose 2007 book Why Obama Can't Win went from bestseller to jokebook in the blink of an eye.

But yeah, he makes some fair points. Especially the ridciulousness of the dueling Revs SharpJacksonton, and the anamoly of Martin/Zimmerman (non-black on black murder) versus black on black murder.

But then Steele opines that racism is practically over because blacks are nine times more likely to be murdered by other blacks...huh? As if that cancels out or dwarfs any other matters of discrimination or racial inequality ("well shit, what does it matter if young black males aren't getting hired, they're all dying anyway"). Again..huh? And just because "there are no more legitimate advocates of racial segregation" - no more George Wallace's standing in the school doorway - that somehow means racism is done?

I wonder what the stats are for black on white violence / murder? I would guess that black on black is higher than white on black, but not sure about black on white. Surely those stats are kept, although I'm not sure if they mean anything...

Black on black is higher than White on white, higher than black on white higher than white on black (at least that was what it was some 10 years ago. I suspect it's still the same.

Black on black is about even with white on white in pure numbers. Both are many times higher than mixing it up either way.

TV: 7% of black murders are by whites, 14 % of white murders are by blacks.

Wasn't it racist to talk about possible riots if Zimmerman was found NG? They wouldn't consider it if the roles were reversed.

So is he white because he was found NG or would he be latino if found guilty??????

The whole thing went national because the police department failed to bring charges as I recall. Demonstrations popped up all over and there was a big hue and cry...and finally Zimmerman was charged. Then the police chief got booted. The key detective got busted down. If Zimmerman was arraigned a month earlier it probably wouldn't have been news, regardless of the verdict.

Yep, stoopid local yokels said not enough evidence to give to a grand jury.....much smarter feds show up, bypass grand jury and up the ante to murder 2.....turns out a jury agreed w/the local yokels.

I missed the part where the jury agreed that the case shouldn't have gone to trial.

I did hear one of the jurors say that 3 of the 6 were leaning towards some kind of conviction.
