If worse comes to worst, just move the playoffs back a week and let the Bengals and Bills replay their game in a couple weeks. Single game a week before the playoffs. If Hamlin doesn't pull thru, I don't know what you do...
Either call it a tie or go by winning % this year. Someone said the rules state the game ends 7-3 Bengals but nobody in their fucking right mind wants that.

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this. Nobody stayed behind & they're instructions were to just get back to Buffalo.

its about the only option they will have - I don't see them postponing the playoffs a week, there is a shit ton of scheduling and logistics associated with that in regards to stadiums, tickets, TV, etc

They would have to play by tomorrow. Not gonna happen. This was just so bizarre. Glad he's alive..

That's true. I wonder what would've happened if it had been a ref?

they would have had a moment of silence, then tossed him in a dumpster and continued the game with some backup chick ref who doubles as a chains keeper

Hedge — Something similar happened to a ref at a Carolina vs Virginia game in the late 90s. James Knight collapsed on the field with a heart attack. Kenan being next to Memorial hospital saved his life. It was an eerie feeling, but the game was completed. It sounds cold, but no one (well, maybe the other refs) knew Knight. A teammate potentially dying before your eyes is a whole other situation.

The NFL has dodged bullets up to this point. It's amazing to me a death hasn't happened already with all the vicious hits. You may say the NFL has done a good job, for the most part, of protecting the players, but it is inevitable that a death will occur just like in any other profession. Yesterday, three construction workers in Charlotte died when a scaffolding collapsed. Some professions are just more risky than others.

In 96 at Reds Opening Day the Home Plate ump stood up out of his crouch, said something, walked towards the Reds dugout & dropped dead. They called the game against Marges wishes & played it the next day. Next day someone sent Marge flowers over the situation & she regifted them to the Umpires room downstairs.

What if it had been one of the kickers?

After the events of the year prior, my 12 year old self was more worried about getting recompense against Virginia until my father told me to shut up and have some respect, but I am glad things worked out the way they did because of 2004....
Fun Fact: Jim Knight was the referee for the crew that did the 2004 State game in Chapel Hill, the TA game. State fans were convinced it was a conspiracy by Knight because Memorial/UNC Hospital had saved his life.
PS: You're really dating yourself by still referring to it as Memorial hospital...

I want that clip and the Marcus Paige game winner played at my funeral, and I'm dead serious. I want all of those NC State loving fuckers in my family and from back home to get taunted by me one last time before I'm in the ground.

I’m 55 now, DS. It’s hard for me to believe.
Back to the day Knight had the heart attack in Kenan. I never pay attention to refs, unless I’m pissed over a call. But for whatever reason, I was looking straight at Knight when he fell that day. It’s a bizarre moment I’ll never forget.

I was at that State game when McClendon got denied and then fumbled, sitting in the section next to the visitor's section. That was fun...

The funeral bill will do it.
