When/If Calipari bolts for the NBA, there's one guy who I hope finds his way to Rupp to coach Kentucky. He is probably the only guy out there with the personality and grit to handle Big Blue Nation's demands and will IMO always have UK in the top 10 annually knocking on a national championship without the one-and-dones. His teams ALWAYS played with grit and desire and were hard nosed and dedicated to winning. The only problem is this guy is not a crowd favorite for UK fans.......but if you remember, Calipari wasn't either before he was hired. I realize the bashing I'm going to get for this, but I'd love to see Bruce Pearl take the UK job someday. You would't have to be concerned with a team that played uninspired and thinking only of the name on the back of the jersey.

Shaka Smart, personally, would be a good fit. All things considered, though, he probably would be better for UNC. They need someone who can coach, recruit and gives off the impression of running a high ethics program.

Just wondering if UNC will be able to get away from this coaching tree thing.

Heh......good one TAK... no way should that little bit of snow caused the cancellation of the game. I can remember several years back when Lexington and most of the entire state of Kentucky was hit with a major winter storm with ice and snow and the game was played - can't remember the opponent at the moment... think it was Mississippi State or Ole Miss and Rupp had over 20k in attendance. Alot of fans had driven over 100 miles to attend.

That was kind of stupid. Also, dude needs new wipers. If I knew the guy, I would smack the shit out of him for wasting my time.

"say McCants again...SAY IT!"
Like I said, there are exceptions, but hey, McCants was just a head case in general. And if a guy like that will hang around 3 years and be an integral part of a successful national championship run, I'll take him. But if he had only stayed one year and the team not even made the FF? No thanks. And, FWIW, for every McCants, I can name a dozen (at least) guys like Jamison, Felton, Hansbrow, etc. Different strokes, I guess, and I can't deny that I'd love to be getting a few one and done studs, but the model doesn't seem to be panning out at UK like everybody was thinking it would...

I don't think Williams pushed the Carolina family as much as Dean but Dean also, until his last couple of years, was serious about bringing in high character players.

IF Cal was to bolt in the next couple of years - personally I think we have 4 more years of him, then I'd want Sean Miller -but thats assuming Miller goes to a final four between now and then.
I don't want a flash in the pan from a small school. I want a guy I know he been in the fishbowl and still delivered.
The bottom line is your school, facilities, whatever doesn't turn your highly motivated coach into a great one. He has to have that in him before he arrives and was felt held back at his old school.
I want a coach at UK who says he deserves to have a multi-million dollar training facility, a renovated or new arena, a huge recruiting budget , and one of the highest salaries in the nation- not one that tells everyone how honored he is to have those things at his disposal.
screw that humble routine- I'd throw his ass out the door the minute he said it.

Sean Miller would be my second choice. Not sure he could handle all the duties and criticisms that comes with the job like Pearl could. IMO, Pearl's personality would make him be the perfect replacement and the guy has proven he can coach with just average talent. Think what he could do with a team of top 10 recruits.

Pearl is a good "arch enemy" coach but I don't think he has any shot of being at a major D-I program, even though what I think he did (and the lying for it) is nothing and shouldn't have been more than a slap on the wrist.
I like Bruce Pearl and he's always been very gracious in defeat and humble in winning (except for Memphis - he hated Memphis) toward UK.
Whoever replaces Calipari is going to have to come in with a plan from day 1 that is effective, transparent and immediately impactful to the program. Otherwise its just going to be 5 years of misery for them highlighted by the occasional win at Rupp against Florida or Louisville.

They might be motivated if this academic scandal doesn't go quietly into the night.

Rumor is that Smart wants the UNC job and views it as his "dream"/"destination" gig. It would explain why he has been hanging out at VCU despite overtures from major programs each year. My only concern is his lack of high major head coaching experience.
I like Sean Miller, but I don't know if he can handle the scrutiny that comes along with coaching a major power that is situated in the East. It's just a different vibe here than in the Pac 12.
I don't think Matta is great with X's and O's, but he can recruit. Imagine what he would be able to recruit when he walked into a gym wearing a UNC shirt...
If Cunningham or another outsider is the AD when everything happens, I doubt you see someone from the family take over. Some people push for Davis, but I am not sold on him in the least bit. Wes Miller would have to prove himself at UNC-G then take a high major job to prove himself there. That would take at least ten years, and I don't see Roy staying that long. I think he has five to six years left in the tank.

The only Carolina guy I want is King Rice other than that it needs to be Smart.
McCants stayed 3 years I dont think he hates UNC I just think he is a very odd duck.

There is a large group of Memphis fans who would love for Bruce Pearl to coach the Tigers.
There is an even larger group who despise the man, and would probably disown the team if he was hired.
Either way, he would take the job in a heartbeat if offered, and would kick ass here.
