What would an unstereotypcial bigot sound like? A great deal of them deny they're bigots and a great deal openly claim it (see Rat's post, above). So either denial or admission of bigotry would both fall into the stereotype. I'm having a hard time (no homo) picturing an ironic bigot. Steve Martin in The Jerk, maybe? The blind black guy in that Dave Chappell skit?

The fact that we still live under the tentacles of the Patriot Act is infuriating.

Tick: its partisanship at its apex, but at least they're right now.

10ac: they shut up because their partisan biases won't let then complain.

The internet mining stuff that came out today sounds far worse than the NSA phone data. This crap needs to end now no matter who starts fear-mongering about terror strikes everywhere

I said recently that, of Obama's three current scandals - Benghazi, the IRS, and digging into reporters - the digging into reporters would be the one that would hurt him with liberals.

They don't care if some of their countrymen are left to die at the hands of Muslim wackjobs in some crap hole of a country, and then the president lied about it. The liberals think the diplomats and soldiers deserved it. after all, people like that have too much patriotism and testosterone anyway.

They don't care if the IRS was getting all Chicago on Tea Partiers. The liberals believe the victims are, after all, Tea Partiers, and deserved to be muscled.

But messing with reporters? That's serious! May Woodward and Bernstein have mercy on Obama's soul. And now that Obama is snooping phone calls, even the NYT editorials are taking a brief respite from their 6 years of Obama sycophantery.

it was all ok as long as it was their guy that was doing it. These people make me sick. they pass laws, they write the laws, then as soon as there's some outcry it's all somebody else's fault. fuck them. never, ever vote for an incumbent.

The government's ability to spy on its citizens appears to have fewer and fewer limits. That trend should concern both ends of the political spectrum. I don't trust either party on this issue.

This situation lays the ground work for a lot of J Edgar Hoover tactics. If the Obama administration can sick the IRS on its political opponents, then any future administration of either party can just as easily sick the NSA on their political enemies. There could be a lot of conversations like, "Senator, if you don't vote for this bill, all your google searches, especially the embarrassing ones, could leak. You're up for reelection next year, aren't you?"

The big question is not if Oprama, NSA, IRS, FBI is trying to abuse the system. I feel that 99% have good intentions. Our safety. The problem is that the structure is now in place for someone to be able to abuse the system...very easily. That is scary, given the wrong people in power. This is a very interesting issue that is across party lines. You have the old senators who have been in Washington so long they don't have a clue why the public is up in arms over this. Graham, Feinstein, Reis, McCain, Chambliss are dinosaurs who can't possibly understand the technology aspect.

This may be the only opportunity we'll ever have to repeal tPA. Dems (at least the ones outside the executive branch) don't want it, and Rs naturally don't want anything that oprama has his hand in.

Because if the brakes aren't applied now, with this big confluence of scandals that scream OVERREACH, when will it ever happen?

Because they know what that hand can do? 5 years of misery for many.

The jobs report shows that the economy added 175,000 jobs in May and the unemployment rate rose a bit to 7.6%.

Economist Maria Ramirez tells The Daily Ticker: "The reality is that labor market is not as healthy as what the unemployment rate tells you. Most importantly, it's the younger generation that is worst off because they have the hardest time getting a job and they have the lowest participation rate. So many are continuing to go to school and building up debt to finance it." Others are weighing in too..

How do you know that hasn't already been happening for years?

".. and Rs naturally don't want anything that oprama has his hand in."

Obama is doing a double reverse head fake, he knows the way to get R's on board to get rid of the Patriot Act is to act like he's using it for his own librul/socialist/whatever purposes. Stroke of genius on Obama's part...

Hedge,

Genius except that the Patriot Act sunsets and he has signed to extend it...twice. A two-year reauthorization in 2009, and a four year extension in 2011.
