I agree he was completely robbed of the
chance
at one. No earthly idea AU would have beaten USCw that season. Tubbs was a good coach at Auburn. He got a lot out of the persons he recruited and signed. He also knew how to mix duck hunting with recruiting.

Took my youngest son to his first Auburn football game last night. It was his Auburn bar mitzvah. He made a verbal commitment to our 2018 recruiting class.
Good news:
1. We won.
2. We have the makings of a good offense, which was expected when we hired Malzahn. Artis-Payne, Grant and Mason are all solid RB.s The O-line did decent job opening holes and protecting the QB. Marshall looked poised and picked up some critical 3rd downs with his hands and feet. He should be even better when he develops a little more touch on the long ball.
3. There was a lot of concern about our secondary, but they did come up with 3 picks, all at critical moments. That exceeds the INT total for the whole 2012 season.
The bad news:
1. That was only Washington State, and they took us down to the wire. The SEC is going to be a lot tougher than WSU. Our rise back to respectability will not be lightning fast.
2. There was a lot of concern about our WR's, and they did nothing to allay that concern. They were dropping catchable balls all night.
3. The LB play was shaky and inconsistent. A lot of us were surprised when Jake Holland kept his starting job from last year, and the reason is still unclear after last night.

Good for you taking your boy...can't replace time spent with family, you can only wish you'd spent more.
And while the win was important to open the Gus era, were there any injuries?

No injuries that I know of.
And it was a blast taking my youngest to the game. He's visited the Auburn campus before, but he's never experienced a football game in the same stadium where his brother, mother, father, aunt, cousin, and grandfather, all cheered for the Tigers as AU students (and later alumni).
That experience was one of several reasons we moved back to the South.

What was the other reason? The blatant racism?

Hedge misses the low hanging curve as he reaches across the plate....

Proximity to family and land. Abundance of outstanding college football and BBQ. No need for a snow blower. What else is there?

"What else is there?"
Freedom to practice your blatant racism amongst like-minded peoples?

I'm sure the abundance of scantily-clad good-looking promiscuous women didn't figure in the equation for a p.k.

Good looking? Absolutely. Scantily clad? Often. Promiscuous? I wouldn't know. But when I was still on the prowl back in the 70's, the better looking and more scantily clad the Southern woman, the more virginal she was.

He's projecting the backwardness and horrible racism he saw in NC and is projecting it onto the more tolerant and enlightened Southern states like Alabama and Mississippi.

That's what happens when you never leave your home state. I still say it's meth though.

Yes college campuses like Auburn in the 1970's were swarming with virginal women, especially for budding episcopal seminarians.

Stop trying to change the subject. This is about Prof's racism, not mine...

It's probably a safe bet than anyone choosing to move to rural Alabama/Mississippi is doing so for the opportunity to practice open and blatant racism.

That's not true. What is true is that Ohio has more pedophiles per capita than any other state.
