Heh - he spent a lot more time at Clemson than UVA. UF fans were worried that he might jump to Clemson when Leggett was fired but UF is a better job and they got a damn good coach from Charleston anyway. I had been encouraging my son to look at Charleston because he had built such a great program (and Charleston is a great city) but he never seemed interested.

Unlikely...I'm not sure they even have any slots even open on the 17U team. But it's good exposure for college scouts and has been the highlight of my year the last couple of years.
I may check into having him tour NCSU on Thursday as we'll have a bit of time and I think his high school looks at a college visit as excused. I'm not sure I'd want him to play for Avent...he seems like a dick.
One of his former coaches is a good friend of Kevin O'Sullivan, the head coach at UF. He called O'Sullivan a couple of months ago, urging him to come watch my son play. I think O'Sullivan is one of the top 3 coaches in the NCAA and it would be a tremendous opportunity for him to play there...but UF? Ugghhhhhh.....
Avent is a word class asshat.

You should take him in September or April when the students are there (overwhelming majority of whom are female...and hot) and are scantily clad. Good God. What a great city.
Has you received any attention from UNC?

DS, we haven't been very proactive in reaching out to coaches yet (or attending coach's camps) for several reasons, and coaches cannot reach out to athletes or parents until September 1 of their junior year (two weeks from now for my son). We are going to start doing the camp circuit this fall. So right now coaches can only talk to his coach. His travel ball coach was Danny Hall's roommate (the GT head coach) in college, and they've been talking about my son. I'm not sure GT is a good academic fit though - my son is a pretty average student but has some learning disabilities and GT might be strenuous. UNC would be too, of course, but we all know they push their athletes through without having to go to class. Other teams that have talked with his coach are UT(enn), Notre Dame, and a lot of smaller schools (Ball State, Valpo, Wright State, etc.) And as I said previously, one of his coaches when he did the Goodwill Games in Australia is a friend of UF's coach and they've discussed him. We're doing a camp in two weeks that UGA will be attending, I think that would be a good fit for him.
If he tours a college campus I'll have to escort closely. He is often mistaken for a 23-25 year old and my wife has been approached about him doing some modeling on two different occasions so I can't imagine what kind of trouble he'd get in. I'm already worried enough that he's going to knock up some high school chick.

I thought it was ECU that was the North Carolina party school? There is a poker room in town that I visit maybe once every other month and one of the players there graduated ECU. He told me it was ridiculous, greatest party school ever (party school = great female to male ratio.) He said when he got there he was virgin. By the time he had left, had slept with not less than 80 different girls (all the while, he had a girlfriend the whole time.)

Well, ECU is in NC, and CofC is in SC. They're both great party schools with lots of whores. The ECU girls might give you something though...

We took our NCSU visit but never met with Coach Avent. My son refused to call him, I told him he's going to have to get over that in a hurry. He's not a shy kid but hates the telephone (kinda like his old man).
Positives: pretty nice campus, very compact (like FSU, which I like), really nice student union, friendly people, recently updated baseball stadium
Negatives: women were disappointing ("Dad, have you noticed how masculine the women are?"), some of the older buildings really dragged the overall atmosphere down.
The kids that started game one didn't start game two...so my son was on the bench after starting game 1. Coincidentally an ECU scout wanted to see him play so he roped a single to left, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on a single. At these showcases it's not so much about winning and losing, the visiting coaches and scouts can ask that players they are interested in come to bat. They can even ask that they bat a few times in a row. My niece is a very fast runner and I went to one of her showcases and she pinch-ran for the next baserunner as soon as she scored, just returned to the field over and over. They play their last game this afternoon then we get to head home in the morning.

ECU is a solid program, and the women are hot and slutty. The baseball players are treated very well there. One of the guys in my wedding pitched there.
My wife's half-brother pitches at ECU. She and him aren't that close due to the 18 year age difference and the fact her dad fathered the kid by his mistress, but it is her brother...

Today marks the day 11th grade baseball recruits can be contacted by schools.
First contact: UVa
There's no way he'll end up with the grades and test scores to get accepted unfortunately. But it woulda been nice! It was not a schollie offer, just a "hey come see us and what we have to offer" solicitation. And UVa has a lot to offer.
On the topic of football...5 more days! I'm glad Golson won the job, I think his upside is much higher than Smag. His running ability is just a bonus. Texas State is going to be a bit more of a challenge than we've seen from a cupcake in a while. Franchione is a solid football coach and their offense is formidable. Add in FSU's unproven talent on both sides of the ball and lack of depth at LB, OL, and DL, and you have the potential for a scare.
