And, really, most pols just lie about all the critical issues. Speaking before a group of Southerners, Obama said he supports the 2nd A and says we have enough gun laes. Speaking before some libs in Massachusetts, he says we need gun control and more laws.
But he's right on both counts. He's not trying to take those crackers' squirrel rifles but he is trying to keep gun manufacturers from flooding the market with automatic weapons.

No. That's not what was said or implied at all.

I'm telling you what he meant to say, whether it came out like that or even thought it. What I say is correct and you should be on board. I will take you places.

I read this over the weekend and thought of you, eCat (not the full on distruction of women and children, but the overall Libertarian angst and ire over government overreach). This best laid out, in my opinion, the McVeigh case and the problems inherent in the whole shitshow. What is most interesting, in visiting this piece, is that it was written prior to 9/11. So, the world was still in the 90s, at this point.

good catch - yes I admit - I'm probably more sympathetic to McVeigh than the average American but there is no excusing the killing of innocents. Holy hell, I'm not sure how he arrived at that logic intersection in his brain.

Now had he blown up an ATF office (and only an ATF office) well....I'll let the NSA wonder how I'd finish that sentence.

I'll read it when I get a break in a few minutes

Finally, as he was about to be sentenced, the court asked him if he would like to speak. He rose and said, “I wish to use the words of Justice Brandeis dissenting in Olmstead to speak for me. He wrote, ‘Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or ill, it teaches the whole people by its example.’” Then McVeigh was sentenced to death by the government.

yea it does..........

The article does a good job explaining his logic...fair or foul. He invokes Truman.

yea I read that - I noted the part about our government not stopping its attacks when the Iraqi's placed human shields at key targets.

But still - I thought the intent was always to be morally superior than your adversary. Its the basis for how you rationalize right and wrong.

He didn't *know* there was a daycare center there, but he knew there were people who had no conviction or allegiance to the government other than just a paycheck in that building.

That said, its kind of cliche' to say a man lives by a code, but Timothy McVeigh lived and died by a code that was infallible and unyielding to him.

I'd be more inclined to salute McVeigh if he went after the true gov't HQ and blew up Wall Street.

Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

I guess that list excludes Wal Mart because they probably take most states.

The one for Alabama is wrong. Alabama Power, while large, is not even in the top 5.

Is Maryland the university? It's just the state flag. Or, are they saying the state government is the largest employer?

Heh, NJ is a taxi service I've never heard of. That's the most random of employers on the map, IMO.
