This was the play of the week. The Clowns were still in the huddle. To take the lead no less.

"Man... it's thirty-fucking-four to nothing. Thirty-fucking-four."

"Man, fuck that. You see that Browns / Bengals score?"

I don't have the energy or ability for a Hizzy-style recap of the football weekend, but a few thoughts:

Minnesota--Is it possible to have a worse day than losing at home to freaking New Mexico State and then having your coach collapse with a seizure on the sideline?

Georgia--Georgia had no business losing this game, but I think word came down from SEC officials that if Georgia won this one and took the SECe, there would be a national outcry to have them replaced with Boise in the SEC title game and the league wanted no part of that. Or else Richt just found a way to lose again.

Penn State--I can't believe Vegas will offer a bigger gift this year than Bama to cover a single digit line against Paterno's pedestrian outfit.

Notre Dame--At least Kelly has options to punish his DBs and inept QBs. Film practice from the tower, ride with Michael Floyd, etc. etc.

Jets--Rex has to be living with a horseshoe up his ass or something. I don't think any other team comes close to as many late, inexplicable wins as Sanchez and co.

More Hizzy less Mexico.

That was bad.

I'm wondering if someone in Bristol told Gruden that he needs to use Tom Brady as the annoying replacement for the game-long Madden/Favre suckoff.

Sure Henne sucks and that fourth down play was awful, but what a gutless effort by Miami's defense. They were sucking wind from the second quarter on. I think Davis sat out consecutive possessions with cramps, and Sapp got pushed to the ground by freaking Wes Welker.

Like I told Dot in the NBA thread...good job giving your newly-signed free agent running back a big vote of confidence, Miami.

No need to throw to the wide outs all that much when the tight ends are routinely open 30 yards down field. There were several problems with the Dolphins' D last night, and scheme was certainly a big part of all of them, but when you don't have the depth at CB to cover tight ends, you have major problems. Major.

And other than maybe five or six times, the Dolphins had absolutely NO pass rush. Granted, part of it was because Brady had an open receiver 1.5 seconds after the snap but still... At some point, you've gotta agitate Tom by hitting him. He doesn't like to be touched, especially now that he's older and has enjoyed a long career where he's mostly been untouched.

And, finally, those goal line plays by Miami defied logic. Fade routes to shorty boy Hartline? Forced bullet passes to Brandon Marshall on second and third and goal from the one? Say what you want about last year's Dolphins team, but they would've at least powered their way in with Brown or Williams, even if it took them all four downs to do it.

Right. Bush fits the change of pace/receiving back role just about perfectly, but it makes no sense for Miami to not keeping one of their other backs to pair with him or at least adding one. The net effect is that they don't even try to run in short yardage or at the goal line. Nice strategy.

Is there a worse college football team than Memphis?

Don't bother thinking about it...the answer is 'no'...

That goal line fade, turnover on downs, 99 yard play touchdown was a 14 point swing that has to stick in Miami's mind all season. That'll be especially true if they win 8 or 9 games.

I was actually thinking about you the other day, Dave, when I saw the Arkie State score. ARKIE STATE. I mean, damn, ARKIE STATE. At this point, I'm not sure Memphis could go .500 in a FCS conference. Tommy What's-His-Name was right. The AD doesn't give a rat's ass about UM football (shaddup, Mook).

Hizzy...I look forward to your write-up on the Memphis/Austin Peay tilt this weekend...thanks in advance!

It's a shame someone will have to win that one.

Hizzy should take over for Leonard Postosties.

"Phillip Fulmer leads his Rifleman into the Athens Kennel for a shooting match with Jim Donnan's Pack of Drool Dogs. The Volunteer Army has owned the K-9s of late, while the Red Clay Hounds think its about time to sink their teeth into the Big Orange Rifle Brigade. The Knoxville Army is angry after last week, but the Athens Dawgs will get the job done. Leonard's Loser? Tennessee"

Hey, Rivals.com got around to reprinting the non-story about "the chant" at the St. X/Colerain game and its (currently) on the front page of Yahoo.
