I don't know. It took some balls to walk through that patrolling crowd of armed HS agents carrying packs of explosives with all the bomb sniffing dogs around.

If it was some idealogue he/they would have likely announced their gripe by now (and martyred themselves in the process). Maybe that'll come later.

But anymore the odds favor some loner POS who wants to make a big splash for reasons too twisted to comprehend.

I agree. I'm leanign toward thinking this could be a schizo/paranoid/delusional/insane/nutjob type deal. Wouldn't surprise me if it was radical islamic terror, or political nutjob, but nothing really fits together. Even the insane theory is kida off because this was clearly a very big and relatively complicated job, even if the devices were simple.

One thing I suspected that is now confirmed: the NY Post is about as reliable as the Weekly World News.

two things about the target--boston is about as democratic as you can get And with the sandyhook theme running through the guncontrol mesage theyve been spouting at a high pitch recently could push over the edge some gun rights zealot.

one thing that I wonder is the timing--`10-12 seconds between devices--is it more likely it was a cell phone or more likely it was timer or more likely set off by someone who had to have close proximity.

latest press conference said only 2 devices so he went 2/2 in setting them off.

so hust asking the bomb experts what the most likely way to set these off would be

We interrupt this topic to post the following note to FBI/DHS:

There are no bomb experts on this site.

Regular conversation may now resume...

Thing is, we watch all of this 24/7 media barrage of the tragedy with the appropriate range of emotions. Sadness, disgust...anger.

But there are the .1% out there who are getting off on all the hoopla, and are fantasizing about how they could pull something like that off themselves. Fifty years ago something like this would generate a few headlines and some broadcast dribs and drabs, but now these events generate a bejillion hours of coverage because that's what we the public crave. Unfortunately that's what the bat-shit crazies crave too.

Now reporting that a ricin-laced letter was delivered to Senator Wicker's office. Was tested three times to be sure and came up positive every time.

The conjunction of a number of things are pushing me further in favor of a rightwing or lone wolf nutjob

1) Still no claim of responsibility. Terrorist orgs love to take credit for their attacks.

2) Cheaply made IEDs that are similar to those used in the Middle East but also easily found on the internet.

3) Not just Patriots Day in Boston but also this week marks the anniversaries of Waco, Oklahoma City, and Columbine, occasions that the extreme right would be more interested in paying tribute to than Islamic terrorists. There seems to be an increased level of activity amongst white supremacist gangs lately...and I wonder if this letter to Wicker was from someone of a similar frame of mind.

And yes, the NY Post isn't worth a warm bucket of piss. This guy they've been smearing for 24 hours was completely exonerated today after an exhaustive search of his apt. I'm assuming his crime was looking middle eastern.

Well, moreso that the Columbine kids were "inspired" by the OKC attack and were hoping to rival it. Probably on a more superficial level rather than intense sympathy with the political ideology of Tim McVeigh. But they didn't choose their date by accident (they ended up doing it the 20th rather than 19th).

It's a home grown group or person taking their first shots in their new American Revolution on Patriots Day.
