I read that story - I can't believe these stores like Office Depot are throwing out these items in a dumpster - I can see tennis racquet covers or ink toner, but returned electronics - like computers ?
That's almost unbelievable to me - however the renting out a storage unit to get access to the dumpster onsite is brilliant as well as getting eviction notices from property managers and scoping out dumpsters on campus at the end of each semester.
Before 2008, I used to have to pay an additional fee for big items to our trash collector - like a grill or hot water heater - you had to pay them an additional $10 on trash day to pick it up - but after the economic crash, I just set the item out and scrappers will pick it up within 4 hours. You have to be careful because they take anything near the road - your kid leaves a bike out there and its gone.

Give the garbage man $100 at Christmas and he'll take bodies away if you want.

eCat - yeah. I cleaned my garage out a few months back. Junk. Most of it broken. Stuff I was too embarrassed to donate to the Salvation Army. People swooped on it like they were gold doubloons.
Cletus - heh. ::::Reminds self not to piss of Cletus::::

If the Chicago garbageman takes the bodies away do you owe his "boss" a favor?

That is why you take the cars to a scrap yard and pay a little extra for that crushed car to be fast shipped to China.

Very long read, but THIS is how a season of Homeland should play out...

(The ending could be sufficiently "good guy wins the day" to satisfy the viewing audience, to be sure)

I hate that this woman got shot and died in a road rage incident in Las Vegas, but read this....
"Last week, Meyers was headed home with her 15-year-old daughter after a driving lesson in the school parking lot when a man behind them sped up and drove alongside their vehicle, the teen told police.
The daughter said she reached over and honked the horn. The man stopped in front of their vehicle, got out and approached Meyers with angry words, police said.
Meyers continued home and sent her daughter inside the house before she and her adult son, Brandon Meyers, who was armed with a handgun, went looking for the vehicle, police said.
They apparently found the vehicle and followed it before heading home, where the vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said.
Brandon Meyers fired back, and Tammy Meyers was hit in the head during the exchange, police said.
Robert Meyers said Friday that his son told him he believed there were three people in the car and his shots with a 9 mm handgun hit the car at least once.
“I would never say that anybody went looking for trouble,” Metro Police Lt. Ray Steiber said when asked to characterize Tammy Meyers’ five-to-10 minute drive through the neighborhood."
------------------
You go out looking for trouble by encouraging your teenage son to carry a gun and you're a goddamned fool. Go home and stay home - if you think its necessary, call the police and let them deal with the psycho.

I'll reserve judgment until I read Grissom's report.

The husband of the wife is of course distraught and understandably so, I'm sure he is in no mood to hear "why in the world would your wife and son go out armed looking for someone?" and his answer was she didn't want to bring the trouble home to their home.
What I suspect is, she knew this boy and figured she'd read him the riot act and put the fear of god into him - but she didn't want to do it with her daughter behind the wheel of the car.She also thought that if the kid got mouthy her son was there to talk some shit and flash the gun if the boy rolled up on them.
Just fucking stupid and the husband, if he was home should have put to a stop to it immediately. From his actions now, I"m guessing he encouraged it and it lashing out at anyone who questions his logic (or his wife's)

It's just a mess. The only positive is that these weren't southerners.

I was at a biker/redneck bar (long story) this past week (pic on my Twitter account. Follow me!). Anyway, at one point, the guy pounding shots pulls his 9mm out and starts bragging to friends how quickly he could do a takedown (disassemble) on his 9mm. I left as he dropped the slide on the floor.
I love the south, but we seem to have a decent population of people that Darwin's Law failed us on. These are often the same people that are seen on TV after a tornado with cigarette, coveralls, flannel, and missing teeth offering the sage-like, "it sounded jes' like uh locomotive!"
So, even Mother Nature is targeting them and ultimately failing.

I'm pretty strong second amendment and right to carry
but if I walk into a bar and I see anyone with a gun - I'm outta there.
The people I'd trust to carry a gun in public I can count on one hand - with 3 of the fingers shot off
Its bad enough that I go to a movie or Krogers and chances are there are 10 people with their CCW and their Ruger LCP, but at least I don't *know* they are doing it.
