Too much apathy towards basketball on most SEC campuses.
LSU hasn't been much good since Dale Brown retired. Arkansas has never recovered from firing Nolan Richardson. Auburn, South Carolina, and the Mississippi schools are all historically bad. Florida was terrible until Norm Sloan-Kruger-Donovan (and Sloan got caught cheating). Worst may be Georgia, which has an amazingly sorry tradition for such a large, rich school.

Yeah, I meant St. Marys.
The SEC won it all in basketball last year. And baseball. And football. And track (indoor and out!). Arguably that kind of unmatched success creates some serious envy in other quarters.

Re: SEC basketball - We had more top 100 RPI teams than just about any other conference. The big issue was only Florida was a top 25 team. So, 1 good team and a ton of slightly above average teams.

In other words, SEC basketball = BigTen football.

heh
I would think with mizzou, florida, kentucky, and the soon to be reigning NIT champ that SEC basketball would be alive and well

Norm Sloan was always a cheater. He cheated at NC State too, which isn't saying much since they have a long, storied history of NCAA compliance issues.
Auggie: Hi!
South Carolina had a resurgence for a few brief years under Fogler, but they haven't been worth a shit since the McGuire years.
Auburn was a 1 seed in 1999 with Chris Porter, but they lost to some unknown team in the Sweet 16. I say unknown because that team's performance for that season has been stricken from the record books.

Congrats on Kentucky's national title. I take it you're damn proud of them?

The SEC had 3 teams in the Top 50 RPI. How's that compare to other conferences?
Big East: 8
B1G: 7 teams (7 in the top 40 actually)
Atlantic Ten: 5
Big12: 5
Mountain West: 5
ACC: 4
Pac12: 4

They dominate between 51-100. As in Minnesota football domination

Yeah, Jerry Palm said we had 8 or 9 in the top 100 - whatever it was, it was the same as the BigTen. The difference is, the BigTen has several good teams (i.e., teams in the top half of the top 100) whereas, the SEC is a league with only one good team and a buncha slightly above average teams.
Like I said, we are to basketball what the BigTen is to football.

But you can take comfort in the knowledge that the SEC is to college football what Jethro Tull was to rock music flute...
