What a great recruiting class for a coaching staff that did not even exist two months ago. I'm excited to think of what they'll be able to do with a year to work on the next class.

Now let's hope they can do what Chizik's staff utterly failed to do: take those great players they recruited and coach them into great college players that come together to form championship teams.

12 players on Auburn's national title teams tested positive for synthetic marijuana. Auburn kept the results secret, did not even tell any of their parents, and not one of the players was ever disciplined. One player, Dakota Mosley, failed seven consecutive drug tests. The day after he failed his 6th test he was scheduled to appear before the NCAA who were investigating possible sanctions; Coach Chizik had a friendly chat with him beforehand and assured him he was in no danger of losing his spot on the team. I am loath to defend AU; however, (1) Selena Roberts was a major force behind the Duke lacrosse imbroglio. She never apologized, recanted, or retracted her statements (2) "Spice" -for lack of a better word- was legal in 2010. At the very least, it was a gray area.

I think most of the story is BS like all the others.

However, I believe any allegation that Chizik's players were undisciplined, out of control, and riddled with spice. Anybody looking at his 2011 and 2012 teams could see that.

The reality is that the NCAA has rendered itself irrelevant. They do not have the resources to to properly investigate all the schools under their jurisdiction so they rely on the schools to self-investigate under the premise that if you confess the NCAA will go easy on you but if your cover-up and lie the NCAA will hammer you. Well the last two years have proven the exact opposite. U*NC confessed to problems in football and got punished, but refuses to acknowledge any problems with a decade of systemic academic fraud and the NCAA has backed off. Miami has self-punished but will fight any additional penalties, and will win. Auburn is telling the NCAA to kiss it's ass and the NCAA will go quietly into that good night. The NCAA is toast Mark Emmert has fucked up a 100 year old institution in three years.

oh it was fucked up but still viable. They're fucked now because powerful schools are starting to fight back. The NCAA has always counted on schools self-reporting and then not fighting the punishment too much. The last couple of years have shown that there's no value to that. Schools are just going to deny, deny and deny.
