Still, can someone tell me....
why did Nuck call A.R. asking about Horowitz? What purpose did that serve, if he was gonna kill Jimmy? New York had no care if Jimmy lived or died.

Also, as a father, I just couldn't imagine calling it a day, period, and especially if it meant my kid had to be raised by my Mother (if my Mom was that chick).

If I had to guess I think Nucky was looking for them to volunteer to kill the Butcher because of him going behind their back with Waxy. Once Nucky realized it was up to him and there was nothing to be gained by killing him, then he had to decide what was in the best long term interest for him. Removing Jimmy freed him up of any competition and leaving the Butcher in place gave him an ally in Philly. I guess there was limited value in having Jimmy back under his wing and he was a loose cannon anyways.
Nucky's very thorough.

who said Darmody was a for real guy? I've googled him and can't find any mention of him. everyone else seems to be real (except the chicks)

also, Paz de la Huerta might have been written off the show

Real Life Person: Jimmy Boyd, who served as an assistant to Nucky, was head of the 4th Ward and a county clerk. He wasn’t Nucky’s driver and almost definitely didn’t rob bootleggers, but Boyd did do dirty work, delivering bad news and maintaining order in his ward. After Nucky’s reign, Boyd rose to be Frank Farley’s right-hand man. Among the scams he had was cornering the boardwalk ice cream market. Boyd was almost definitely unaffiliated with Al Capone. It’s possible the Darmody character has elements of Capone’s New York crony, Jimmy “The Shiv” DeStefano. Since The Shiv never made it out to Chicago, so this would be a loose interpretation as well.

Van Alden went to Cicero, Illinois, which has a big Capone connection.

that seems like a big reach for Darmody.
Terence Winter:
We're going to come back to the series over a year into the future.

What happens at this point to the Jimmy-adjacent characters? Is Richard still a part of the show? Is Gillian?

Yes, they're all still part of the show. Aside from the people who have been killed, they're all still part of our universe.

You say everyone who wasn't killed is continuing. Van Alden seems to be in some trouble, but you also deliberately put him in Cicero, which is Capone-adjacent. I assume you have plans for him.
He'll be back. Good catch. I think the Cicero reference will be lost on 90 percent of the audience, if not more. But people who do know their mob history know that was a hub of activity for Capone around '23-'24.

She writes a massive check at the end and thinks, "Okay, here it is." Now she can be done with the religious stuff and the God stuff forever, and where that leaves her and Nucky, I think she can wield can wield a great bit of power as Mrs. Thompson now, and how they fare in that relationship will be one of the storylines of season 3.

Why is it that Nucky chooses to kill Jimmy and spare Eli? Is it simply a matter of choosing blood over friendship?
Yeah, I think at the end of the day, as sinful as it sounds, I think blood is thicker than water. In the final analysis, I think the bigger bet is on Eli. I don't think he completely believes Eli, either, but he feels he can move forward with Eli a lot easier than he could have with Jimmy. In some ways, Jimmy's a mercy killing.

Manny somehow survives all of this, and winds up being a prop in what Nucky does with Jimmy. Do you have plans for him going forward?
Yes, he'll be back.

That's the thing: for every Luciano and Lansky, there are thousands of Jimmy Darmodys who are footnotes in history - these guys who made a run at it, didn't make it and died died trying. That's sort of the point. In our big sweeping crime story, it's why isn't Jimmy Darmody in the history books? Well, A)because he's a fictional character, but B)not everybody became Al Capone. Only one person became Al Capone, and there are hundreds or thousands of people who wanted to be and tried, these low-level alcohol/drug dealers who were never able to get their act together in the way that those guys did.

Alan Sepinwall is a dude whose blogs/sites I visit constantly. His Analysis of BE, Homeland and (back in the day when I originall got hip to him) The Wire have been fantastic.

Saw "Faster" on the Showtime this weekend. Actually wouldn't have been a bad movie if they cut out the stupid "Killer" storyline. Then again, the movie would have been about 60 minutes long if they cut that out.

Had a chance to see Tower Heist last week.

It was one of those movies where the trailer shows you every funny scene.

Eddie was in classic form but he wasn't the focal point of the movie so it was really just a Ben Stiller Please Come to This so I don't have to make another Fockers movie.

I saw it on a Tuesday Night with it snowing outside and there was just one other person in the theater with me.

Ok so only a few people are going to get this put it has me laughing like a kid again in my office.

So I have been going to the gym and for my treadmill / exercise bike sessions, I have started watching a Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law shows. They are about 10-15 mintues long and are great. Now the funny thing is, I am working support at a good size law firm right now.

Tonight is our Xmas party and I SOOOOOO want to wear a tux and an eye patch and just walk around the finger food tonight and say shit just like Phil.

"HA-HA Tiny hotdogs..."

"HA-HA Mini-Umbreallas"

You just need to watch a few to get how he says those things.

I also do a lot of Mentok the Mindtaker to myself when I am dealing with pain the ass lawyers on certain things.

Speaking of office Christmas parties... mine has scheduled a Christmas "dinner" at 3:30 PM. So this should mean a short day, yes? WRONG! The bosses went ahead and scheduled a shit ton of work today and told everyone they need to come in early to get all the work done so we can get to the "dinner" on time.

Awesomesauce!
