How would you describe the mocking that Rick and Corey and Chum would deserve?
I bet the Count would tell them the bike was worth about $1100...and that it needed a different paint job too...

I feel we are only getting one side of this. What is missing is the exact verbage on the offer by eCat. Could be something like, "No way that piece of shit is worth $2k" or "You may want to ask your momma first before you answer" that may have instigated the lad.

Its not worth my time to insult people on craigslist. My first email only said if bike is as described and has clear title I can give you $1200 cash. And offering him $1250 doesn't help me. You're bidding me up!

"Its not worth my time to insult people on craigslist."
Only b/c it would detract from your time of insulting people in here. I'm glad to see someone budgeting their lode of sass so scrupulously...

speaking of Craigslist, since we bought the land, I decided to buy a 4x4 quad, and since I'm a cheap fucker, I found some guy selling a Polaris Sportsman 400 for $600 saying it didn't start and he didn't know why.
I knew it wouldn't last - he could basically say the quad was a piece of shit and still get $1000 for it all day long, so I called him up, asked him some basic questions and then drove the 1.5 hours in rush hour traffic to get it. While I was going there, sure enough , he told me that 4 more people called him up offering anything from an Xbox to a golf cart in trade. That is one thing I've learned about craigslist, at least around here - if something is a good deal, you have to act on it quick or its gone. I keep trying to get that thru my brothers head - he is looking for a much nicer quad than I'll ever have but he sees one he likes and then says he'll check on it next weekend. He is saying no one is calling him back - its because its already sold.
Anyways, I show up and the guy has the quad in the front yard. I look it over and then ask him "whats your best price?" which is another way I've found to be less insulting while opening the negotiation. He says he'd take $500 cash and it was hard for me to hold my glee, and I've been holding my glee since I saw my first playboy. So I give 5 $100 bills and load it up. He is telling me that he can't start it, doesn't know what is wrong - which in decoding from Craigslist is "blown motor but if I say blown motor I won't get anything for it so I'll just play dumb" but this guy wasn't playing dumb. I had to take those scouts camping plus I had a handful of other projects to screw around with so this afternoon was the first chance I got to play with it.
I get it home, charge the battery, clean the carb, spray some starter fluid into and boom - starts right up and I"m driving it around the yard.
I don't know anything about it but I can already tell I'll need to spend a couple of hundred on just maintenance neglect items like a speedometer cable, a rear brake pedal, etc but I was expecting a bunch of work and it was about 20 minutes worth of dicking around with it.
So its a good day.
